Bi-lateral cataract procedure for my dad (with Alzheimers)

When it became apparent that my father required cataract removal procedure, given the current Covid lock downs and strain on NHS, they took the bold move to explore private treatment through 'Spire' hospital in Hesslewood. After making the initial enquiry they were very fortunate to be seen by Mr Goel within 2 weeks of the initial call. My father, who suffers with Alzheimer's, was treated very well at the initial consultation examination. Mr Goel took extra care to explain his findings to my dad and my mum and discuss the treatment plan. He also took time after the appointment, to phone me (daughter) to discuss the outcomes. Given the current heightened risks associated with Covid, they were advised to have both cataracts treated at the same time (bi-lateral). Whilst this was (traditionally) unusual, it is apparently the way all the professionals are approaching it in the current situation, to reduce hospital visits etc. The procedure was arranged for 2 weeks after the initial consultation. Mum and dad self isolated and had pre-surgery Covid tests. The procedure was undertaken late afternoon, Mr Goel's preference (to enable his patients to simply rest and go to bed afterwards). An hour before the arrival time, Mum administered eye drops to begin the dilation process, to minimise their time at the hospital (re minimise Covid risks). Dad was taken away promptly on arrival and cared for by the nursing staff whilst Mr Goel removed both cataracts and also applied an injection to manage degeneration in his left eye. Two hours later dad walked back into the arrival lounge eyes comfortably protected by see-through plastic shields, taped on. (These were to be left on all night whilst dad slept). We were given various eye drops to continue dads care from home. Dad was able to walk, supported, to the waiting car and then heartily tucked into an evening supper when he arrived home. He had no pain at all and no other ill effects. I was quite relieved. The following morning we just needed to keep reminding him not to touch his eyes and explained often why we'd removed his lenses from his glasses (pending a later replacement pair with new prescription). His eyes looked really clear- seeing his bright blue irises for the first time in ages. He was able to see and move around freely and was happy to oblige for application of eye drops (for infection prevention). Mr Goel arranged for a follow up phone call the following day to check my dad was doing well and the follow up consultant appointment is in just a weeks time. Mr Goel also kindly wrote to the NHS hospital regarding ongoing management of dads degeneration in the left eye and thanks to that, dad has already received an NHS outpatients appointment for that ongoing care, to reduce his exposure to private health charges. In hind-sight, i wish i'd not dwelt so long on the 'bi-lateral' surgery aspect. To get it all over with in one go (whilst not previously the 'traditional way') was certainly the least distressing for my dad, especially with his Alzheimer's. Extremely happy with Mr Goels care so far.

Myself and members of my family have been fortunate and privileged to have Mr Goel as our consultant. He is very thorough with his examinations, and takes each patients needs into consideration even though this sometimes delays his appointment times. Mr Goels very pleasant secretary Sue is always available to help with any queries or concerns that may arise. In summary excellent care and service, and I would not consider moving to another consultant.

Excellent

Excellent. My husband and I both had our cataracts treated by Dr Quah at Optegra in Manchester. Mine were done about 6 years ago and John had his done last August. We both recovered extremely well and I have 20.20 vision, John needs glasses for reading. We both had total confidence in Mr Quah. He's very personable and even checked my eyes when I went into the final consultation visit with my husband. We would always want to see Mr Quah for any eye problems. I have no hesitation in recommending Mr…

I have no hesitation in recommending Mr Goel, he is so approachable and has a lovely patient manner, friendly and professional; nothing was too much trouble for him. He answered all of my many questions and explained everything thoroughly. When you see and speak with Mr Goel it is very apparent that patient care is paramount to him. The glasses corrective surgery I had was seamless and painless. I could literally see everything so clearly within a few hours of my surgery - no more hunting for my specs!

If it wasn't for Mr Goel i would have…been blind

If it wasn't for Mr Goel i would have lost all sight in my left eye and would be totally blind as have no sight in my right eye. After temporarily losing vision Mr Goel saw me within 24 hours. His care was first class and so professional and i have continued to see him for check ups but pleased to say he saved my sight and i am forever grateful. Thank you Mr Goel.

I can honestly say

I can honestly say, this is the best thing I have ever done for myself . I would do it again in a heartbeat. It is now over 8 years since Mr. S.Goel performed my surgery,in Grimsby. I had my eyes tested only last week and my eyesight is perfect. I do not need glasses for anything at all , except of course Sunglasses. I certainly recommend this gentleman to anyone thinking about surgery but not quite sure. You will undergo many tests, on one occasion, and if you are not suitable, he will be truthful and say so. He is a charming, personable talented eye surgeon.Thank you Mr Goel.

Cataracts and after.

Thanks to Mr Goel and his team, I always knew what my options were in my two cataract procedures. The preparatory examinations were thorough and the procedures themselves were of military precision. But at every stage the team members were also most encouraging and patient. I found it thrilling to be so well looked after, from my very first visit to Mr Goel, through to being signed off with wonderful new vision. MANY thanks. AFR
