AE is Simply Brilliant.

AE is Brilliant. My Daughter attended AE for a 1 year 11+ course (2018/19). She worked hard with the excellent support from her AE teacher (Claire Castell), the assistants and passed the 11+ Exam with a tremendous score. AE tuition has given her confidence and helped her with school work too. She is looking forward to Thank you everyone at AE and keep up the good work.

My son completed the 9 month course…

My son completed the 9 month course which on reflection is very intensive. The workbooks support not only the 11+ exam but also improved my son’s performance at school. He is more confident with maths in particular, and his vocabulary has improved. The tutors are supportive and offer helpful advice. Having attended AE tuition, my son has attained a high pass In the 11+ and I feel he is more prepared for his SATs and grammar school.

Signing up my son to AE Tuition was the best decision

I have two boys and by now both have passed 11+. An older one who attended private school and started an 11+ course at another tuition company in Year 5 and he had a score of 155 on the Bucks test. A younger one who is attending a public school, started AE Tuition in Year 4 and he had a score of 160 on the Bucks 11+ test. We have learned a lot during this process and happy to share our experience: - Should your child attend an 11+ preparation course or not? - I have heard from multiple parents that children should not attend an 11+ preparation course as that will not reflect their true abilities on the day. Many of these kids sadly do not pass the 11+ exam and miss the opportunity of a great free education in a great inspiring learning environment for the rest of their life or end up in a private school for serious ££. Of course he or she should. Would anyone go to any exam or competition without preparation? I do not think so, I mean unless you do not care. So why would the 11+ exam be an exception? On the other hand everybody else does it so if you do not sign up your child he or she will be disadvantaged. At the same time kids learn a lot during the course that will help them excel in school as well anyway. Double benefit. "Fail to prepare is prepare to fail." How true. - Should your child attend 11+ preparation course if he or she attends a private school? - In my experience a private school does not prepare a child any better for the 11+ exam than a public school. So the answer is yes. I know, you will realise that you have paid a lot already for private school and now you need to pay even more. A good public school and 2 years of 11+ preparation is the right combination for me. And my son attending private school was not any happier than the one attending public school. On the other hand I was £50000 unhappier. Most kids from the private school were aiming to get into the grammar school anyway, so in the end I see little point of a private school if your aim is to get your child in a grammar school. - Year 4 or Year 5: I believe starting an 11+ course in Year 4 is the best. My older boy started an 11+ course in Year 5. It was very stressful. In the beginning of the course he was much slower in any tests than the ones who started in year 4 and it caused a lot of stress and pressure for him and the whole family. It took him several months to settle and pick up the speed. In the end he did well but it was a roller-coaster. My younger boy started in year 4, he developed gradually and he did well in everything in year 5 and his confidence was built up by then. We had all the drama in year 4. - Mock tests: My son had probably 10 mock tests in total from early April till the end of August. Very important to get used to the exam stress, timing pressure. Make some mistakes in the mocks not to make the same ones in the actual exam. You do not need 10. 5 external mocks on top of the ones provided by AE Tuition is an optimum figure. Make sure to have at least one Mock per month from April. - We also signed him up to a 1 week summer course at another tuition company for the variety. - We wanted to pass the Bucks 11+ but we signed up my son to the Slough Consortium exam and the Reading School exam too. Why? Multiple reasons. If it is before the actual one you are aiming for it is a free mock opportunity. But more importantly if your child does not pass the one you were aiming for but passes the other one then you have an alternative and this could be a strong argument in the appeal process too. - Make sure your child reads a lot even before year 4. It will build up the required vocabulary, improve comprehension and English in general. - And finally no tuition makes any sense if your child does not do the self learning and homework and you the parent do not get involved by correcting homework, reminding and encouraging your child as required and help in case of any questions. Missing out on this point would lead to a failed exam and disappointed parents. Why we chose AE Tuition: 1. We were told by other parents that AE is the best. - It is probably true. 2. Actually, we did choose another company in year 4 because, we were concerned about the large group size at AE. But, eventually we cancelled the other one and signed up for AE Tuition in the last minute for an important reason. Most other schools do not offer non-verbal reasoning in year 4. However, we believe it is important to start learning everything from year 4. 3. Group size large or small? - does not make a difference. AE has a very good methodology and plenty of staff around the kids so group size in my experience is irrelevant. 4. AE Tuition has excellent teachers teaching your children and you won't be disappointed. My son's teacher was Clare Castell and he really enjoyed her classes and we believe she is brilliant. 5. AE has its own curriculum, books, materials. All on a very high standard. 6. There is a lot of homework but it is manageable. My son attended his class on Sundays, he followed the recommended daily homework schedule provided by the teachers and he was always ready by Friday evening. He had time to do corrections and some extra work on Saturdays and relax Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons. 7. AE or other school? - There are surely other good schools but from the 2 we have used and the few others we have heard about AE is definitely the best. Let me take this opportunity to thank AE Tuition and their professional staff, especially Clare Castell, my son's teacher, for the excellent tuition and care provided to my son during his 11+ preparation course. It was two hard years for all of us but it did worth every minute and £.
