Basically a scam
4 accounts were settled at about 55% of the original balance which is nice but Huron charges a fee of 25% of the original balance (fair, and they tell you that), then they also charge monthly fees, settlement review fees and retainer fees. In the end I will be paying more than $800 more than if I had just paid the debt. Also, the settlement offers mailed to me from the creditors were better than the ones Huron got. When I sent these offers to Huron they ignored them. Their customer service team repeatedly harassed me over the phone when I asked for email communication due to my work schedule (I work midnights). Over all a terrible experience and they did not deliver on their promises.

I was a bit uncomfortable with the process at first but the agent explained it to me and it was simply a better alternative to bankruptcy. I went through bankruptcy before when I had my business and it was hard. I couldn't maintain the payments. The economy was rough back then (2005). This was the best option for me, being on a fixed income. When I received my first settlement offer where they reduced the amount owed by a little over half I knew I made the right decision.
