Home 8 review after a year of having the unit

Guys! This is some Chinese knock off that never worked for me. The alarm and the sensor goes off every hour for no reason. My system does not arm anymore, called the company and they told me that I need a new processor. I purchased the processor and the alarm never worked, they also told me that they were going to replace one of my cameras, after I sent it to them, they said they were not going to replace the camera anymore. I had to tell them to send the camera back, otherwise, they were going to keep it. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND AVOID FRUSTRATION! GET YOURSELF A REAL ALARM SYSTEM; OTHERWISE, YOU WILL REMEMBER THIS REVIEW FOR YEARS TO COME!

Hopeless Support

I am having a nightmare with Home8 support. I have a faulty camera which did not show video in the app. Their staff correspond in broken English with very poor grammar and clearly consider their customers to be fools. They have sent numerous long winded emails telling me how to rectify the problem. I have followed these to the letter and the end result is that I still have a faulty camera which does not now show up on my app at all. The simple solution would be to send me a new camera but no!!! They are now telling me to go back to the original retailer and go through them. I’ve totally had it with them. Very poor support and quite rude and dismissive at times.

Basic, but effective!

Basic, but effective security system. Really like how easy it is to install and it was not pricey. Was looking for sensors and cameras with an app that would set off an alarm and notify you remotely, rather than a siren. Does the job! Will be getting more sensors etc.

Poor communication …

I ordered the garage door opener kit on Amazon & received a camera with PIR not functioning. Company sent a new one with no hassle. But it didn't arrive for weeks. The Premium trial expired soon thereafter. I'd like to get an extension on the trial since we couldn't fully utilize it due to camera function. I'm currently waiting for an online chat rep to get on the line...for over 15 minutes. No answer on the phone number listed, even during business hours. No response from my last two support ticket messages. Initially impressed, but I'm not very happy with the customer service.

Frustrating without multiple views

- The alarm often beeps at random times whether it is on or not. - It's frustrating not to be able to have multiple people use the phone app without paying extra. I have the app on my phone so I can see if it's set. However, my sister never knows. If there was a screen on the actual alarm where you could see whether it was set or not, this would be fine. However, it's frustrating when one person has to do everything/tell the other person if it's set. I understand you're trying to make money but it honestly makes me want to return the whole system and I would never recommend it to a friend because of this.

Delivers as promissed

I bought home8 for its combination of self monitoring and pay as you go coupled with end to end encryption. Self monitoring has saved us from numerous false alarms as we get used to the system, We intended to only use it when we travelled but, now that we are used to it, not sure we'll ever turn it off. Need for encryption should be self evident, even though many systems don't yet offer it. Don't need anyone else watching our cameras or monitoring our system. I also wanted a cellular modem as backup if we lost hardwire internet. Even though home8 no longer offers this service, they guided me to the right legacy equipment and they trouble shot it until we got it working. It took a while but great support.

Love my Home8 system.

I started with the package including door alarms, 2 video cameras and a motion detector. I added a couple additional video cameras to that package as well as a plug that can be remotely activated. (It is a pretty big house and we are gone a lot.) For my second home I purchased two video cameras that can scan the rooms and exterior doors. It is a much smaller home and I believe it will be adequate. All the items were really easy to install. I have peace of mind when I have to leave my homes unoccupied. I can look at them whenever I want. One of my cameras looks out the window so I can enjoy my view from afar. Love this system and my interactions with this company have been excellent. Some items were purchased directly and some from Amazon.

Good Product, bad subscription

Currently own the home8 garage door opener paired with security camera. Functionality of the device is great, user friendly, and easy to install. Very satisfied with the device kit itself. Not happy with the subscription. In the website, it states that 1 "owner" access, and 1 "authorized" access comes standard with purchasing the device. I(owner) am currently the only user allowed access to the system at all, after having tried to add 1 other. Don't know if this is a glitch; looking to contact the company for clarification. The system should allow for at least one other user without having to spend $10/month.

Starter Kit

Good: Easy set up. App clean and intuitive. Bad: PIR not work right out of box. Two tech calls to get replacement processed. New PIR moved around to several locations. Too many false alarms to use. Camera unit reliable for several weeks then started with false alarms too.
