Awful company devoid of any morals whatsoever
I had an offer accepted for a diamond ring on 1stDibs. The payment option was “wire transfer”. I was not happy transferring cash, so used their live chat to ask if I could pay via PayPal transfer, they said yes. So I did this. Then 1stDibs decided I could not, 3 or 4 days later the money was sent back to my PayPal account but I’d lost £136 due to the exchange rate. If 1stDibs had not said I could pay via PayPal I would not have done, but the won’t take responsibility and are refusing to do anything. So I am £136 down, I have no ring, and they are £136 up. The seller has gained nothing, I have gained nothing. But 1stDibs have, money for nothing for them. Steer well clear

Do not sign up to 1stDibs as a seller, they will lock you into an oppressive contract with massive fees, and will do everything to prevent you from closing it. Beware, this is not an honestly or transparent company.

Buyer beware! I bought an engagement ring from Hasbani Diamonds at on 1stdibs for approximately $12,000. On the *first day* after I proposed to my fiancee, the yellow diamond fell out! We were unable to locate it even after looking through the kitchen trash and disassembling the pipes under the sink. I expected the seller, Sal, would offer to fix the ring for free or offer me a refund. Nope! Sal tried to evade responsibility by claiming that we had damaged the ring! When I took it to my local jeweler, he confirmed that the lip of the prong over the yellow diamond was 0.5 mm when it should have been at least 1 mm. Otherwise the ring was in excellent condition (no scratches let alone damage). When I contacted 1stdibs, they said there was nothing they could do, because I had waited 2 months after receiving the ring to propose to my fiancee. The icing on the cake, though, was that 1stdibs secretly removed my negative seller review on their website! When I asked to reinstate it, they took no action... probably because they rake in money on seller fees and a negative seller review hurts their business model. My advice: go to a local jeweler that offers a good warranty on their jewelry.

1st dibs has treated me like an important person. I only buy at 1st dibs. The description is accurate and the service is impeccable. Uniqueness and quality are consistent. I've never bought anything but 1st quality there. I did return one item and they treated me as though their only concern was my satisfaction. Unheard of these days.

Unethical business practices and false promises
We purchased an expensive set of vintage dining chairs using the 1st Dibs platform. They were shipped from overseas and 4 of the 6 chairs were severely damaged in the process, rendering them unusable. We unpacked the chairs about 2 weeks after receiving when we were ready to set up our dining room following renovations, and immediately documented and reported the damage upon discovery. We even confirmed that the purchase was insured with the seller prior to shipment. Despite this, 1st Dibs provided no assistance or compensation to address the issue, citing their 7 day reporting policy. However, this policy is not clearly outlined when making a purchase (including in the order confirmation email), so the only way a buyer might be aware is if they proactively seek out the information. As the buyer, I am now liable for thousands of dollars in losses - not 1st Dibs or the seller - despite the fact that I had no control over the insurance, packaging, or shipping process. On many levels, this is a very unethical way to operate and absolutely does not align with 1st Dibs supposed “guaranteed purchase protection.” I will never use this platform again based on my experience and hope that others will proceed with caution.
