A terrible experience with Johnson Holidays!
I recently had the unfortunate experience of staying at the BC Spa Hotel in Turkey, which was booked through Johnson Holidays, and I feel compelled to share the details of this disastrous trip. From the very beginning, our experience was plagued with issues. When booking the trip, the tour operators, Johnson Holidays, repeatedly changed the price during the phone call, creating confusion and frustration. Despite these red flags, we eventually went ahead with the booking. Upon arriving in the early hours of the morning at 4 a.m., we were shocked to discover that the hotel booking, organised by Johnson Holidays was incorrect. We were told check-in wasn’t until 2 p.m. the following day, and we were forced to pay for an extra night’s stay, an expense we hadn’t anticipated. Already exhausted, this was a terrible start. Things only worsened once we entered the hotel. Our room was infested with ants, and we had to be relocated. The second room wasn’t much better—air conditioning leaked directly onto the bed, making the room uninhabitable. Despite numerous complaints, the hotel staff did nothing to rectify the situation except send engineers to "fix" the issue, which persisted. No offer of another room or proper compensation was made. The condition of the hotel was far below the standard we had expected from a supposedly 4-star property. The rooms were dirty, old, and poorly maintained. The gym was an absolute disgrace, with rusty, ripped, and dilapidated equipment, completely unusable. The sauna had an overpowering smell of mould, and to our horror, we even found a cockroach in the Turkish bath area. Service was appalling. We were told towels were only changed every three days, which is unacceptable, especially considering the state of the facilities. We had to repeatedly ask for basic amenities like towels, only to be met with dismissive responses. Johnson Holidays, the travel agency that recommended this hotel, was no better. Despite numerous attempts to resolve the situation, they offered us an insulting £50 each at first as compensation, later increasing it to £100, and promising to refund the extra night we were forced to pay for. Considering that we paid £1,252 for a 5-day, 4-night trip (excluding the extra night), we did not expect such poor quality and service. Given that this trip was meant to celebrate our 22nd wedding anniversary and my husband's 50th birthday, our first break in eight years, this token gesture was deeply insulting. Our special occasion was completely ruined by the substandard accommodation and appalling service. It has been almost a month since we returned home (on August 15th), and as of today, September 8th, Johnson Holidays has failed to provide a satisfactory resolution, despite being given ample evidence of the issues we encountered. We have tried to resolve this privately, but due to their lack of action and ongoing delays, we now feel forced to make this experience public. The BC Spa Hotel was not as advertised and certainly nowhere near 4-star quality. I would strongly advise anyone considering this hotel or booking through Johnson Holidays to reconsider. This was a once-in-a-lifetime trip for us, completely ruined by an incompetent and unhelpful travel company and hotel that failed to deliver on even the most basic standards of cleanliness and comfort. We are beyond disappointed and urge others to avoid the BC Spa Hotel and Johnson Holidays tour operator to spare themselves from experiencing what we went through.
