Disappointed with Authenticity Guarantee

I recently purchased a piece of Cartier earrings from a seller on 1stDibs that was advertised as authentic. After receiving the item after paying 2500 US dollars, I had serious doubts about its authenticity. I sent them to a reputable online authenticator, who confirmed that they were indeed fake. I was relieved to know that 1stDibs offers a one-year authenticity guarantee, so I promptly submitted my evidence, hoping for a straightforward resolution. Unfortunately, the response from 1stDibs was disappointing. They claimed they couldn’t see any proof that the item was not authentic, leaving me feeling frustrated and unheard. While I appreciate the platform’s selection and user interface, my experience has raised concerns about the reliability of their authenticity claims. It’s disheartening to think that buyers may not be fully protected, despite their promises. They asked me to submit a document that proves it is fake and I did and all the pictures but they said the authenticity document is not from a source affiliated with Cartier. They try so hard not to give me a refund. I urge potential buyers to do thorough research and proceed with caution when purchasing jewelry through 1stDibs. In the end, I’m left with a piece that I can’t wear and a bitter taste from the lack of support. I hope my experience can help others avoid similar issues in the future.

International buyers beware of hidden costs of import duties

As I first time user on 1stDibs I made my first purchase back in May. The desk I ordered was destroyed in transit from Holland and I was eventually given a refund. It took me a few months of hunting to find another desk that I liked, this time located in the Czech Republic. I've looked through the various emails from 1stDibs where I requested shipping quotes and negotiated a discount before finally accepting an offer and making payment. It was a pricey desk for my budget so I really had to stretch to be able to afford it. It was only after making payment that I received an Order Confirmation that made reference to the payment of Import Duties and Taxes. I did not notice the small print on this email dated 19th September and I have today received a bill from FedEx for an additional £253.49. Given that this has already shipped and cleared customs I am obligated to pay this huge sum which amounts to an additional 12.5% on top of what I already paid for the desk. I get that we are in Brexit times but 1stDibs should not hide these additional fees until AFTER payment. Of course they will claim that it has nothing to do with them and their policies but as a service to their customers they should be honest and transparent about the additional costs their customers will incur. Absolutely appalling service and a company that I mistrust and will avoid.
