The coast to coast tour
The coast to coast tour was incredible with so many different experiences and opportunities. Reece, Fleur and Alex were all amazing leaders and made it even funnier and enjoyable. Our driver Nalin was so funny and made sure we all was happy and satisfied with food and experience value. The volunteering was different each day and saw so many things done so differently from the UK. Amazing cultural experience.

The staff made this experience 5 star
I recently travelled to Asia for the first time, where I spent 5 weeks in Sri Lanka with Travelteer. Now I’m back I can easily say I have created some unforgettable memories and that is a credit to some of the staff I spent my time with. Firstly, my initial week on tour was made so comfortable by Reece Jones. A genuinely amazing guy who always has a smile on his face, and was happy to answer any questions thrown his way. His high quality stayed consistent when I moved to the main house in Hikkaduwa and he made the experience much smoother overall. I also have to mention Maddie Richardson, who did an incredible job co-ordinating throughout my time. As well as this, she did well in organising little social events such as movie nights, table tennis tournaments and yoga sessions - that made the experience that bit more special. For two young people who are doing this role for the first time, I cannot fault them and they never failed to treat me with respect. Big credit to the local team also. Ruchi, Nalin, the kitchen team, the security, the cleaning team always brought laughter to the house and carried out their jobs very professionally. In addition, I have to mention Jana at the turtle sanctuary - who worked tirelessly throughout my stay and has one of the kindest hearts I know. You can really tell he has a passion for what he does and it was inspiring to see. All in all, it shows that the right people can make or break your experience. However, one thing I do have to mention is the lack of information given before about certain things. At no point was I informed that I would be put under curfew at weekends, which prohibited me from doing anymore travelling around the island. I understand the curfew midweek completely as people need to be 100% there for programmes but I believe the weekends should be ours to decide. I believe at some points Travelteer were operating at a capacity they couldn’t handle. For my last two weeks there were over 100 volunteers and this hindered the quality of programmes and organisation of things massively. It led to too many people on one program with not enough tasks to complete, therefore you found many people stood around doing nothing when they have paid a lot of money to be here and volunteer to make an impact. Another couple things such as charging £45 for an airport transfer (when you can get the train for less than £5 or an Uber for £25), and charging £10 weekly for aircon when we have already paid £200+ a week for accommodation. I’m not ignorant and understand that Travelteer is a business as well as a charity, but these, as an example, can come across a bit cheeky. Procedures, rules and contents of the programs need to be communicated better in future so you don’t risk selling an experience that people aren’t expecting. It felt a bit like a high school summer camp at times and I know others agree that we were contained/felt trapped a bit too much at times, which is not what you’d expect when you travel to the other side of the world.

Amazing experience
Amazing experience, unbelievable what was managed to fit into a week, Fleur, Reece, and Alex were so kind, helpful and the trip would have never been the same without them all. A trustpilot review doesn’t do it justice, it was perfect.

Volunteering in Nepal and future improvements
Over my past 2 weeks in Nepal, I created lifelong memories volunteering across villages and schools in Pokhara. I thoroughly enjoyed my time teaching English to the Nepalese students, building greenhouses and repainting schools alongside my fellow volunteers. A huge thank you to Ming and Sam for their efforts in coordinating this trip. However, during this trip, I encountered accommodation arrangements issues which left the girls slightly uncomfortable and in housing without a supervisor nearby. I hope Travelteer will be more considerate when sorting out rooms, but believe this issue has been taken into account moving forward. Furthermore, given the low living costs in Nepal, I feel that the amount volunteers had to pay for accommodation, transport and food was quite overpriced. I don’t feel that I got my money’s worth and often we only found out what we were doing tomorrow the night before. Many of the students we worked with were not even equipped with basic tools like paper and pencils. I believe the amount that volunteers had fundraised should be sufficient to supply these necessities to the schools. Despite the struggles and challenges, I had an enjoyable time meeting new friends and exploring Kathamandu and Pokhara. I would be grateful if Travelteer could take into this feedback and improve the experience for future volunteers.

Sri lanka!
Had a great time in sri lanka, i went on tour and it was amazing, i saw so many amazing things and really feel like i saw the wonders of sri lanka! i felt completely guided the whole time, Nalin and my tour coordinator Reece went above and beyond when i needed medical help, waking up early to take my to a hospital, and checking up on my continuously! Travelteer is a very good first volunteering experience, they are very flexible with programmes and allow lots of time to explore and enjoy the country! Again the coordinator for my house was Reece and he was amazing, i don’t think i ever saw him without a smile on his face, always happy to help, answer any questions, and have a laugh with us! He 100% made my experience as good as it was, even waking up at 5am to come and wave us off when we left. Highly recommend travelteer as a first volunteering experience!
