Room for improvement

Having done 2 weeks in Sri Lanka, consisting of doing a week on the coast2coast and then a week volunteering, I feel there is a lot as a company that evidently needs to be addressed to avoid gaining a bad reputation and from which they should learn from to better future volunteers experience. Firstly I would not recommend this trip to someone who has a food allergy or intolerance as I am told ‘allergies arnt really a thing in Sri Lanka’, and I ultimately paid the price. The first week during the coast 2 coast, I would firstly like to praise the bus driver Narlin, whose charisma and enthusiasm is everything and more you would expect on this once and a lifetime trip. Despite my gluten free allergy, he ensured i was always fed and carried nothing but positivity so I am very thankful. We had however had a coordinator with us also who was unfortunately not professional enough and made a few uncomfortable comments and did not reflect travelteer positively. Regardless, within the tour we were enable to explore the beautiful parts Sri Lanka has to offer. Another thing though to make note of is the fact you have to tip everyone , for instance your tour guide which we were not initially told about. I would like to praise, Reece, Fleur, Maddie and Cary’s who ensured that when an issue was made known within the second week that it was faced head on and clearly work really hard to ensure everyone has a great time. Reece was in charge of the lake house where I stayed, and again is someone I have a lot of respect for due to his positivity and friendliness. He was so approachable so any situation, big or small and always ensured the best outcome for us volunteers. However, despite all the coordinators hard work, the whole food situation at the lake house is where things went wrong! I was fed gluten due to what I’ve been told was a ‘language barrier’ and ultimately paid the price. Vege and vegan alternatives were also not great, one evening we had nothing but mash for dinner and were left hungry. I ended up having to eat out most nights due to lack of confidence in the food which contradicts the focal point of paying travelteer to feed me! Despite this, Evening activities were excellent and organised well by coordinators, who ensured a bus took you to and from the events and was a great way for everyone to have fun after a long day of volunteering. It’s such a shame that the food let you down as there are clearly many positive elements and people who try really hard to make this trip a memorable time, and Sri Lanka is such a beautiful country, but my health was put at risk so hence my rating.

Coast2coast tour and how travelteer can improve

I highly recommend doing the tour as you see so much of Sri Lanka and the amazing experience of climbing lions rock, safari, snorkelling and more!. Nalin was the best bus driver, so friendly and funny. He really made the trip worth while! However, one coordinator was very unprofessional with how he interacted with most people on the tour. They were very sexist and extremely insensitive. Some including making comments about the girls bodies. This would be a 5* rating but because of this individual I have to give a 3. One thing that travelteer doesn’t tell you is that you have to tip everyone and they don’t provide water when you’re doing the tour. Providing water could be something that they offer as someone did faint during our tour. The volunteering was amazing! I did marine and wildlife and it was 10/10. Maddie and Reece were the loveliest coordinators and I felt like I could tell them anything.

Poor experience on coast to coast tour

I did 2 weeks with Travelteer in Sri Lanka which included one week on the coast to coast tour and one week volunteering on the marine and wildlife program. Travelteer are a great charity and were so helpful leading up to my departure. Coordinators Reece, Maddie and Fleur were so helpful and welcoming and Nalin our bus driver for tour was amazing. I would definitely recommend volunteering with Travelteer because of the great work they do and the activities they were able to offer us. However, I don’t feel that 5 stars would be an accurate review because of a poor experience on the coast to coast tour. Unfortunately many of the girls on this tour were made to feel very uncomfortable by the coordinator and this issue has been raised with Travelteer by some of the girls. Hopefully this is something that can be resolved by having a more thorough vetting process when hiring coordinators.

Great Experience

I spent 5 weeks in Sri Lanka, having done the Coast2Coast Tour followed by volunteering. The overall experience was amazing and I met some incredible people along the way. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with TravelTeer and was impressed with all the staff. Fluer, Jack and Maddie especially were fantastic coordinators who were exceptionally helpful when needed and always very friendly. I definitely learnt a lot while in Sri Lanka and would recommend TravelTeer!

Sri Lanka

I volunteered in Sri Lanka for 5 weeks and had such an amazing time. The staff were absolutely amazing especially Fleur and Carys and made my experience so much better. I could always go to Fleur with any of my issues or problems and she was not only a coordinator but also a friend. I think this is so important as with the large number of volunteers coming and going at Travelteer it was comforting to know there was always someone there for me. She is a really genuine person and will definitely look after you if you choose to go to Sri Lanka! My whole experience there was life changing and I would recommend it to anyone.

Coast2coast and English development

I did the coast2coast tour followed by 2 weeks with the English development programme. Overall I had an incredible 3 weeks and got to travel Sri Lanka and see so much in such a short space of time which I’m so grateful for. Reece was my coordinator for the tour and I couldn’t have asked for anyone better. He was so helpful and friendly the whole time and definitely made the experience unforgettable. Fleur was my coordinator once I got to the travelteer house for the volunteering and she was such a lovely person. Always so helpful and made you feel safe whenever you went out. The coordinators on this trip were one of the main reasons the trip was so great. Each evening activities were planned which really helped to settle in and meet new people, especially if you travelled solo. Although some improvements could be made with the house and rooms, it was overall a great experience and I can’t complain when I got to see and experience so much. Thanks to everyone who made this trip amazing

The best experience!

I did the coast to coast tour and then 2 weeks on the English development programme. The tour was amazing, would definitely recommend to anyone who’s visiting. The English development programme was great, we visited lots of different pre schools and could see the impact we made in regards to helping the children. One of the coordinators Reece was great, if we ever had a problem we knew he would sort it straight away. He was super friendly and was always there for everyone!

Travelteer tour

Jack was a great tour guide and made it so enjoyable throughout aside from that for the price you pay, having to pay for aircon in some hotels is poor as well as food should be better

Very nice concept

Very nice concept. The staff were really friendly and supportive. Carys helped me out where there was a situation that I had to change rooms, she acted very quickly and effectively. Overall experience was good, one in a life time experience. A few points could improve, but nothing major
