Really poor service

Really, really poor service from Ocean Property Lawyers Filton. During a recent house move I've encountered a complete lack of both urgency and proficiency. I suspect that unfortunately most solicitors will work backwards from a worst case scenario date and show little urgency before this date, but in my case any attempt to chase progress and hurry things along in a polite way seems to be met with a stubbornness that results in quite the opposite. There are many specific examples that I won't go into here where things could have been so much quicker, but the main one that I will mention is that any enquiries that are raised following searches are just worked through by the conveyancer without talking through with the client and explaining what the risk is of each one and letting the client decide which ones to pursue an answer or resolution to. Many, many days were wasted by the conveyancer raising lots of queries and deciding that every one needs an answer until such point the we have proactively on several occasions suggested that some might not actually need looking at as the risk is negligible. This should be the customer's choice. I am so, so frustrated that a house move with virtually zero chain took over 5 months from start to finish. I would happily have paid more for a quicker service but unfortunately in this industry there is no incentive to go quicker and no penalty for providing a poor service. Feedback from Ocean below doesn't really address my frustrations. We simply were not talked through each query nor were we given the option to decide how we wanted to proceed with each query. It was only after several attempts at asking whether we could choose to not have every query addressed that we were able to advise that we were happy to accept the negligible risk. Ocean Estate Agents in Bradley Stoke were great, but my advice would be don't be tempted to take them up on their offer of their own solicitors, instead look at reviews, and choose your own. The fact that estate agent and solicitor are with one company makes no difference. They simply do not work closely together.

Excellent mortgage advisor and sales team

Cannot recommend Simon Lack as a mortgage advisor enough. He has been so knowledgeable and friendly and made the process so easy to understand. He continued to be invested and hands on throughout my buying process - offering an opportunity to reduce my rate in line with changes in offers while also being mindful of where in the process we were. I would recommend him to anyone. The Southville sales team were also great - Tom Windaybank and Jenny Green were friendly, supportive and always on hand for any questions I had. I would not hesitate in using Ocean for sales and mortgage advice in future.

The absolute worst!

My husband and I are planning a move from Cornwall to Bristol and contacted Ocean (Downend branch), regarding a property we were interested in renting. We informed them that I would be traveling exclusively for the viewing via train. Five minutes before our 3pm viewing, I receive a call from the agent stating that she has the wrong keys and may not be able to show me the property. While she made attempts to fix the issue and ultimately was able to get the right keys (20 minutes later) she expected me to wait another 45 minutes in the freezing cold for her to come back to the property for a viewing. I considered waiting to view the property before taking my scheduled train, but instead decided not to, and fortunately that was the right decision as her mistake would have cost me another hour and 45 minutes of my time to catch the next train home. I have never worked with anybody so grossly unprofessional and incompetent in my entire life. Her response to the waste of my time and money was that all she could do was apologize. An apology is not good enough. I spent nearly £200 to get to a viewing that she was not prepared for. It's embarrassing. Do better!

Very good rental service

I have used Ocean to let my two flats in Bristol for years and have always found them very helpful, friendly and professional. Everyone in the Bishopston Office is friendly and totally reliable and in my latest renewal Jack Evans handled everything really well, especially since I missed an important email. He followed up and in the end called me to alert me to the missed emails.I

Efficient service - would recommend

We found the communication with the lawyers at first somewhat difficult, due to their reliance on email and their portal. Once we spoke to the case handler and said what we wanted the service was excellent and improved measurably.

Mike, Melissa, Emma, Mariana Dream Team

Mike, Melissa, and Emma, from Westbury on Trym Branch in Bristol, were all amazing, friendly, welcoming, went above and beyond expectations. (Not Forgetting Mariana the Legal Lady in the Westbury Branch) I would class them as the dream team! Definitely the fabulous four I have never met such a wonderful team, they all get on so well together. They were all very professional, they listened to my needs, all very helpful, knowledgeable good banter, excellent atmosphere .... Unfortunately Mike has left the company for pastures new abroad.
