Fabulous house

Fabulous house, so well equipped with everything you could need for a holiday with children. The beautiful outlook over the orchard with chickens, ducks , geese and deer was amazing. We loved the big family room off the kitchen too. Beckford is a beautiful village and we enjoyed the cafe, nature reserve and the Yew Tree pub. None of us wanted to leave and Jack(age 2) keeps asking to go back to the holiday house.

Lovely location, lots to love, just a few issues

Lovely location, and beautiful setting, and we really did have a good week at Kingfisher/Gardeners Cottage. Two main negatives, which I mention first to get out of the way: The mattress in the far bedroom (the wooden bedposts one) was untenably uncomfortable; lumpy, noisy and sagged in the middle, and both my husband and I woke up with back pain each morning. It's just clearly very old/used and in dire need of replacement. My second issue was the pool facilities maintenance/cleanliness. We were there almost every day, and it became clear that the toilet was not being checked at all. It ran out of toilet roll on the second day and nothing was replaced or even moved, including finished toilet roll tubes, so I don't think a member of staff even went in. We were there a week so it's not great when you think of all the residents sharing the one toilet each day and using the same hand towel. Also, the sauna and steam room were out of use, which seemed a shame (though we weren't expecting to be using it) Smaller niggles included finding bits of dirt/outside by the edge of the bed, that could have easily been hoovered before our arrival, and the tea towel was threadbare with holes, and therefore didn't seem clean (though perhaps this is unfair). The freezer door was also not attached to the outer cupboard door (a minor inconvenience) I admit I didn't mention these things when we were there, such is the British wish to never be making a fuss, but I probably should have. The things I did mention (non-working tap, stuck plugs, tripped circuit) were attended to immediately and all the staff I met were very helpful and friendly. There was lots to love! We loved the hot tub - serviced/checked every morning and such a lovely perk to our stay each evening. The cottage was filled with light and had an airy fresh feel, and tasteful decor throughout. The bathrooms are large and there were plenty of towels, as well as robes for swimming, and additional all-weather robes/coats for wearing to the hot tub! The swimming pool is brilliant to have onsite, and we really loved having our regular morning swim slot. Being able to book a two-hour slot meant we had plenty of time to enjoy the swim and also to change either side without feeling rushed. The playground/play equipment was excellent, our boys were delighted with it (and two slides meant no squabbles!). Our overall impression was that it's a very nice place, clearly originally converted to very high spec... but perhaps some time ago now, and maybe hasn't been maintained/updated since. The staff also perhaps appear to be stretched a little thin, and maybe changeover has not quite enough time/people to do as thorough job as it needs. (But this is speculation on my part). We would definitely consider staying again, despite the negatives (I always strive to be honest, and hopefully useful to others reading it), and on balance we are really glad we picked it for our holiday.

Woodland House

The property was amazing. We had a very detailed explanation of how to use the media and lights by the very lovely owners. The family had a great time using the cinema, pool and cinema. The weather was also lovely so we spent most of our time in the garden which was really well set up with a BBQ. The surrounding area was lovely. Had some lovely walks. Just simply had the best time. I would highly recommend a stay at this property.

Lovely cottage

Lovely cottage, great location. The only downside was one shower between 6 people. Ideally you really need two for a cottage that size..

A charming cottage

A charming cottage. Beautifully furnished. Secure neat garden just a three minute walk to the Riverside. Nothing to dislike. Would stay again.
