Terrible customer service, arrogant management, poor product

Terrible customer service. Terrible product. Andrew the CEO is extremely arrogant and unhelpful, as other reviews state. One time I messaged the online chat regarding my issue, Andrew replies after a long time and messages from me asking if anyone is going to reply, with one message and then just exits the chat, not even asking "is there anything else I can help you with?", or "did that answer your question?". The way they treat customers is atrocious. Even if they see your message, they don't reply for ages. They continuously failed to confirm receipt of my return, even though Hermes tracking said it had been received by them 6 working days prior. When they did refund the product cost, there was still no confirmation email, just a rouge bank transfer after I'd messaged the chat a couple times to little or no reply. They even refuse to admit if their product isn't fit for purpose – Mango branded handlebars don't fit bar-end shifters, an incredibly common setup, because the metal of the bars is too thick (a sign of cheap material in itself to compensate for poor strength, which explains reviews complaining of dangerous handlebar fail mid-ride). When I spoke to Andrew about this initially he was extremely rude, so far so that after he replied to two messages, he again exited the chat because he couldn't be bothered to help a paying customer, and instead got another employee to message me instead. They wouldn't reimburse the postage return costs despite this. PR messaging tone of voice is so, so annoying.

Opinion changed for the worse

I wrote a thorough review back on 14th of Feb (I can’t find how to delete it - update, deleted it) where I explained how my bike was delayed but everything was fine (it was during Covid, I still understand that as almost a year later bikes are still heavily delayed. I know this because I’ve had to buy a new bike). I now disagree with my previous rating. I kept getting punctures in the Kenda tyres. Well, they are the cheapest and probably for colour novelty value, but, nonetheless, got some gator skins, absolutely brilliant. Didn’t think much of it. I then had a spoke fail on me. Bit surprised at that component failing, but assumed it happens. I got it fixed, then it happened again (got some cycling mates who confirmed a spoke failure isn’t a frequent fail and certainly not within this time frame). I emailed Mango and said within two months of having my bike I’ve had two spoke failures, one in each wheel. Mango claimed that the fault would lie with the shop that fixed it. I replied and explained (again) that both failures were different wheels. They then told me I got it fixed and so couldn’t do anything. I then had a third spoke fail so I replaced it with non Mango wheels. Worked a treat. It went well until I was downshifting at the lights and the whole chain jumped off, ripped the rear derailleur with it and bent the bottom of the frame. This happened virtually six months to the day of having the bike. Mango told me I should have consulted them before taking it to a shop following the spoke issues, so this time, I asked them what to do to fix it and they just said to go to a shop. The first shop I took it to looked at it, I explained the problem, they asked the brand, I said ‘Mango’ and the lady behind the counter laughed and said ‘good luck!’, five minutes later, I’m told it’s probably a write off. I was unsure if this was correct so I also sent pictures and an enquiry to Balfes Bikes who confirmed that the design of the Mango frame and derailleur doesn’t have a breakaway part, so when the chain jumped and pulled it, it was always going to rip and bend the frame. I’m no bike mechanic so that might be a poor description! I’ve emailed Mango many times (with many replies taking weeks) and the current status is that they recommend I should look at buying a reduced price replacement frame or to take it to a bike shop and get them to bend the frame back (but with nothing about what happens if the frame snaps). I have effectively ended up with a nice looking ornament. I’m genuinely gutted. I took time to write my review because I thought Mango were genuinely being given a bad rap following things out of their control (Covid slowing parts and deliveries etc) and I wanted to give a fair review. But sadly my opinion has changed. I’ve replaced tyres, spokes and wheels through failures and now have a useless frame. £600 is not a huge amount of money for a road bike, but it is a significant amount for me. To add insult, I hadn’t even finished paying it off as it sat in garage in it’s unrideable condition. I’m currently in discussions with trading standards regarding the situation. Would I use them again, no Would I recommend them, no A real shame. But there we go.

Nothing but problems so far!!

Nothing but problems so far. Bike took months and months to arrive, despite having multiple promise dates, which I forgave due to the pandemic. Bike arrived with scratches on the frame, which again I forgave because I received a pitiful voucher. Brake cable snapped a couple of weeks in but again I forgave as I could fix it quickly myself. Now the crank and pedal has snapped off causing a minor accident and for me to obviously being late for work due to having to walk home. An email was sent to customer service with pictures abs details of my event, to which they were not really apologetic & have asked for more pictures. (I don’t really know what of, surely a picture of the crank and the snapped bolt in my hand would be enough), however more detailed pictures were sent including the damage to my knee, 3 weeks have passed and not one email has been received and my bike is still out of order. Extremely poor experience throughout and it seems my frustrations have been mirrored from other buyers.

Handlebar snapped mid-ride - I could have died

Do NOT buy from Mango Bikes - their bikes are serious safety hazards. TL;DR? My handlebar snapped while riding, throwing me into the road - I could have died. (Updated after the misleading reply from Andrew - my bike is just over two years old [April 2019], not four as he indicated. So this wasn’t an early model - but one that he’s responsible for after having taken over the company. Further - he mentions ‘we’ll continue working with you to get to the bottom of this’ as though he’s been in constant contact with me. He hasn’t - I just settled a claim without his insurance company. Seriously - avoid Mango Bikes.) The longer version? Cycling down the busy B4022 slip road outside Witney in the UK at about 12 mph, my bike’s handlebar snapped in two - with zero warning. I went flying over the handlebars into the road; thankfully there was no traffic, but if there had, I could have easily been killed. Now, there's absolutely no reason a handlebar should ever snap on a bicycle. The scary thing? There were no warnings or previous indications of an issue, the handlebar metal just sheared. I fell hard off to the left onto the tarmac: * Abrasions and bruises across the body * Scraped up face (thankfully helmet took much of the blow) * Bruised or cracked a rib on my left side. Quality of life: * 4 weeks since the accident - I've been unable to do yoga, sports, or get exercise. * Sleep has been problematic - I toss and turn normally during sleep, and my sore ribs wake me up every 2-3 hours. * New father - for the first two weeks, trying to pick up and hold my newborn was excruciating. This meant my partner had to assume the lion's share of the care responsibilities for a fussy baby. The moral? You get what you pay for. My review isn't the only one on TrustPilot with similar safety issues around their parts. Pay a bit more for a higher quality single speed - for safety and peace of mind.

Great customer service!

I found Mango bikes through an ad (I was in search for a bike and it came up at the perfect time). I loved the way you can choose any colour for basically every part of the bike - I have been complimented so many times already! (Side note: check all the specifics that go in to building your bike. My peddles aren’t my personal preference which is as accidental so check the details and take your time! That’s the magic of Mango!!) The delivery of the bike was interesting - it was sent it in 2 separate packages so the bike came in one and the peddles in another (which is fine but in the future, I would recommend telling people that they might arrive a day apart as I was confused when it arrived!). Other than that, the service was great. When the bike arrived, I had MULTIPLE moments of being an idiot and not understanding the instructions properly (completely my bad). But luckily, the people at Mango bikes were incredibly fast at responding and helping me with my issues. Cahal in particular helped me through all of my small and silly questions and I’m really grateful for his help! I’ve used the bike a lot now and it is everything I expected and more.

My overall experience with Mangobikes…

My overall experience with Mangobikes was great. I would have given them a five star if it weren’t for their courier (IFS/DX) of choice. Mangobikes were efficient with responding to my queries and help me contact the courier. The bike was amazing and the self installation for the most part was easy. I really like my bike and have received a few compliments when I took it out.

Just don't...Truly awful experience with the new ownership.

Just don't...Truly awful experience. Don't be fooled by the "new team and location". The 'totally new team and location' refused to refund my money even though they chose to operate under the same MangoBikes name. They were happy to inherit the brand but were completely unwilling to do right by people who had been ripped off. My money was stolen and I couldn't get a single response via phone/email/social media. Now that I've made the truth public, suddenly, they are very keen to respond. There has been ample time to put things right and they chose not to. - - - - -ADDITIONAL INFO- - - - - Mentioned by MangoBikes below: "Once we took over in 2018 we replied to any emails and messages received about issues like yours." This is 100% false. This did not happen. I did not get a single response.
