You would do well to avoid this company…

You would do well to avoid this company at all costs! Their staff are rude, bare-faced lying scammers! We booked a car for €188 a week through booking.com; pick-up from their office at Chania Airport in Crete, to be returned to Heraklion Airport.. It took forever for the mini-bus to collect us from Arrivals after we had called, even though we were assured it was on its way.. once at the office it soon became clear that the staff were interested in one thing only, selling additional insurance and making life as difficult as possible to force you to buy full insurance.. Whilst waiting I listened to various customers telling the desk staff they had their own full insurance and showing proof of this, only for this to be refuted by them and forcing the customers to have theirs at €27 a day if they wanted to drive a car away! Also, the desk staff lied repeatedly on the phone to customers waiting to be collected from the airport, again saying that the mini bus was underway.. one staff member got quite irate with a customer who called twice over a 20 minute period asking where their pickup was! All the time they were in the office trying to extort extra money from unsuspecting customers.. When my turn finally came, I made it very clear from the outset that I was not interested in any extra insurance.. I was told I had to pay a one-way fee for returning the car at a different airport, which I totally understood and agreed to. I was then told I had to pay €152 in advance for petrol costs, to be refunded only when the car was returned with a full tank of petrol... Then when it came to pay, all of a sudden my credit card, which I have used all over Europe and have used extensively since, didn't go through.. my brother offered to use his, but this was declined, as only the main booker can use their card.. contacted my bank in the UK, who said all was OK, but still it wouldn't go through.. What to do? Oh wait, said the desk staff, there is one way round it; you can use your debit card, but only if you agree to buy our full insurance!! Dirty tricks or what, that was the intention all along, force you, along with everyone else waiting whilst we were there, to buy their full insurance! Our €188 car ending up costing us over €500!! At Heraklion Airport, the staff member came out shouting KEY before we had even had a chance to unload, explained that the promised refund on petrol would be done in the next few days by bank transfer and spirited the car away with no check-ups at all, other than looking at the petrol gauge.. we were then hoarded into the minibus and dropped off at the airport... Never Again!!!

Avoid - dishonest practices

Returned car to Chania airport. Have used Centauro before and they had been OK but not this time. I have never seen car rental staff inspect a car so meticulously. They were clearly trying to find damage. At one point they kept rubbing a wheel arch as if trying to create some damage. To be honest I think you could find a blemish on a brand new car if you looked hard enough. This is how Centauro now conducts itself. Anyway, they found a mark on a hub cap and claimed it was new. They then said I could either lose my €1100 deposit or pay €110 for a new hub cap. I was forced to pay the €110 or they would have taken the larger amount. There are plenty of other car hire places nearby so use them. Avoid Centauro, avoid being scammed.

It has been the worst experience

It has been the worst experience we ever had with car rentals! First of all there were no representatives at the Athens airport, then we had to wait for 30 min for a bus which by the time we walked to it was full. So we had to wait for 20 min for another bus and 30 min to leave the airport parking. When we arrived to pick up the car the queue was sooo long and it took us an hour to get the car keys. Absolutely awful experience and no service at all. To add we travelled with two kids (one is 1 year old) and this was at 10pm. Never again!!!

Very bad service

Very bad service. They try to make people look cheap and take all their money. Don't believe it. When you pick up the vehicle, they block £1000 or extort £189 without giving it back. Don't be fooled, you will be the victim. Ryair, please do not send anyone to this company. Please be careful.

Absolutely disgraceful

Absolutely disgraceful. We picked up our car from chania airport on Friday 3/5/2024 after 23:30 with a charge of €40 for out of hours service which was fair once our flight was delayed by one hour. Once we ve arrived at the office it was past midnight and the member of staff once he finished paperwork started locking up the office closing for the day as and asked us to take a video of the car which we did but (but he wasn't there to check anything with us) and we took a video under the main signage that was dim lit,from drivers side. It was passed midnight and we had very limited light but we tried to take as good as possible. Once we arrived at the hotel and me as seating from passengers side once we locked the car and folded my mirror I note ls some white lines (not scratches which I mentioned to husband but we were assured that we had the video. Stupidly enough I didn't took a picture but honestly they looked like dirt). Coming today at 20:45 to the office at chania airport to return the car a different member of staff came out and came out with a torch and start looking all around the car and he came back telling us about the white lines and asking for the proof. I told him we have the video and we have noticed them as soon as we went in a better lit up spot once we hired the car and we started looking at our video. Unlucky we have recorded EVERY single angle of the car drivers mirror etc but we ve only missed the passenger mirror. The staff went back to the car once he saw we didn't have proof and this time came back saying that this is a big damage that can not be removed but it needs a full repair, concluding to charge us €190! Were sooo upset as we have assured that we ve spotted that since we ve arrived at a better lit up spot as when we picked it up was a very poor light. And what was a real upset was the fact that the staff when he hand in the car didn't even bother to check but on the way back he was holding the mobile torch and was going all the way round the car very thoroughly...plus at first he said there are some lines but when he was reassured we didn't have any proof he came back second time saying is a big damage..that's a proper rip off, mischievous and unacceptable service. Όπως αναφέραμε είμαστε τακτικοί πελάτες της centauro Αθηνών αλλά Χανίων ήταν η πρώτη και τελευταία φορά. Ο δε υπάλληλος κος Μάρκος υποκριτικά ευγενικός αφού παραπονέθηκα και είπα ότι είναι απαράδεκτο σέρβις και ήταν εκ του πονηρού η χρέωση μου είπε ότι είναι πεπεισμένος 1000 τις εκατό ότι κάναμε εμείς τη ζημιά... Προσωπικά ως πελάτες άκρως τυπικοί στις υποχρεώσεις και χωρίς κανένα πρόβλημα εως τώρα και επιπλέον ηλικιακά αρκετά μεγαλύτεροι του υπαλλήλου, ο τρόπος που μου μίλησε αφού εξηγήσαμε πως γινανε όλα μας είπε κατά πρόσωπο ότι κοινώς λέμε ψέματα...απαραδεκτη συμπεριφορά και θα ξαναπώ εκ του πονηρού προσπαθώντας να καλύψουν δικές τους ζημιές χρεώνοντας τους ανθρώπους σίγουρα δεν θα έχουν την πελατεία που θα ήθελαν μακροπρόθεσμα. Σήμερα χάσανε 2 ακόμα πελάτες και να είστε σίγουροι ότι θα αποτρέψουμε και φίλους και συγγενείς που ταξιδεύουν συχνά στα Χανιά από το να προτιμήσουν την εταιρία αυτή.

Dishonest company!!!

I book a car in Chania airport.When picking up car they take 1100€ deposit and 105€ for gas in case i gave back the car with less than a full tank.When we left over the car thy cheket it like with a microscope and found a small 0,5 m.m damage on herb cap,they cheket even tires.Charged my 110€ for det!!! Please avoid at all costs!!! Dishonest company!!!

Nightmare of a car rental service

Nightmare of a car rental service. Plane was delayed, arrived 30 min after office closed. Was told by Centauro to come by in the morning to pick up the car. Took a taxi for 160 € round trip to Rethymno, where our hotel was, and returned the next morning. Was rudly told that our reservation (and the 350€ we paid) was cancelled since we didn’t show up the day before, even though we were told to come back by their own staff! WHAT A JOKE! Avoid at all costs!

You cannot drop off vehicle if location hasn’t opened yet—beware with flight times

I would have given this company 5 stars if not for their return policy. They do not open until 7 a.m. and they require that you return the car in person with an associate—you can’t just drop off the vehicle and leave your keys in a secure place like most other car rental companies. We had an early morning flight the last day of our rental, and this policy meant we had no choice but to return our car the evening before we were leaving Crete, paying for an additional Uber back to our hotel and then another to the airport in the morning. This was an expense we weren’t expecting, on top of having already paid for our rental car for the final day. The sales associate tried to convince us we’d still make our morning boarding call if we checked in at the airport and then quickly drove back to Centauro to return the car, then they would shuttle us back to the airport, but thankfully we didn’t listen—there is no way we would have made it through security in time and would have missed our flight. If we had known this was their policy, we would have booked elsewhere. Otherwise, the vehicle was well-maintained and the initial pickup was easy.

Ripped off

Ripped off big time by being forced to pay additional 175E for insurance the dealer already claimed to be covered. Never been ripped of by Greece people, sad. Will never go near Centauro nor CarFlexi again.
