Terrible and Horrible

Terrible, horrible, stone age customer service. If you read their manager's emails not sure if you will cry or laugh.

We absolutely love Bench

We absolutely love Bench! From our first interview with them to our onboarding, and now working with our designated bookkeeper (Taylor Harapiak - who is AWESOME! So friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful) to their own amazing proprietary app (not just a layover on Quickbooks, which is an added expense with many others) and expedited their availability and communication...we are thrilled! We reviewed several other companies, and having a designated, non-outsourced bookkeeper, no hidden fees or increased fees as you work with them makes Bench the perfect choice for us as a 12-person small company. - Dale Griffen / The Go! Bench is the Small Business Owners Greatest Tool

I've been using Bench since 2020 and it has significantly transformed the way I am able to confidently manage my business. Having access to real-time financial data isn't something that most smaller businesses are used to, and with Bench, I'm able to easily open the mobile app and see how things are going in moments. Particularly, I love the ability to see which categories I am spending the most in and which revenue streams are producing the most. Like most SMB owners working on their business and IN their business, when it comes to finances, we tend to be very macro about things. Money-in and money-out. But, that doesn't leave much room to make decisions when money is tight or when growth is on our mind. Thanks to Bench, I'm able to see my percentage of payroll against my revenue to determine hiring needs or if certain costs are higher than the revenue driven by them. Thus, making me a more informed business person. It also doesn't hurt that I now don't find myself trying to reconcile a box of receipts against bank statements each month. It's all handled by my team at Bench. Transactions are categorized automatically, and when something needs a second look, it's held for me to review to make sure things are correctly accounted for. Being able to communicate with my bookkeeper in the app makes it awesome to just touch base on things, ask questions, and get guidance. I recently transitioned to a new CPA firm - much larger than my previous - and was very nervous to send over my end of year financials for review. I spoke with them the other day and they were astounded at how well the books were being managed, how our end of year package had detailed information, and even notes from our Bookkeeper highlighting some items that should have a second look by our CPA. They even mentioned how significant it was that Bench does the work to ensure that money claimed for donations are all received by 501c3s - something the CPA usually spend time on. I refer all of my SMB friends to Bench because of the ease of getting started, ease of working with them, and the thoroughness of their services. They've brought bookkeeping into the 21st century and are making one of the most frustrating things about running a business a cake walk.

Roach Motel/Ripoff

Bench is a roach motel. It does not allow easy export of data to other services. This limitation means that the reports generated by Bench are only useful if one wants low-resolution accounting information. Unfortunately, this limitation also prevents Bench from enabling the kind of precise, high-resolution financial accounting that an entrepreneur needs. I strongly advise you to use another service.

2022 books are not done yet accurately

2022 books are not done yet accurately. 2023 books are not done yet accurately. What more do you need to know? I over paid taxes in 2022 and it almost ruined my business. Bench is not an accounting service, they are a Ponzi scheme that is trying to scale into profitability.

I am a bit puzzled on how there are so…

I am a bit puzzled on how there are so many 5 star reviews. My experience has been a total disaster. They have changed my bookkeeper 4 times in a single year; they made repeated mistakes after mistakes on my books, nothing was personalized, all they do is to set the system to classify the transactions; 2 different 'tax experts' that gave me wrong information; books are NEVER completed on time, they are constantly late by several months; about filing taxes: they will file for an extension regardless of whether your books are done or not.. without even consulting with you; messages and emails are never replied to, you have to call every time and nothing gets resolved; very expensive "service" for receiving an extra dose of stress. Stay away, just Google for "Bench reviews Reddit" and you will find the real users experience

Incompetent Bookkeeping, Terrible Customer Service - Stay Away

UPDATE: Despite the comment below from Bench, I have never heard anything from them. I've been a customer of Bench.co for 3 years and it has been a frustrating and costly experience. During this time, our bookkeeper has been reassigned multiple times, with each new hire seemingly less knowledgeable about our company and books than the last. This constant turnover has led to numerous mistakes in our financial records. The most egregious issue occurred in our most recent tax year when Bench missed the tax deadline despite our repeated attempts to reach out to our bookkeeper. As a result, we were forced to hire a third-party accountant to handle our 2023 books since Bench never delivered them. Upon reviewing the months that were recorded in Bench, we discovered countless errors. In fact, our new bookkeeper had to redo all 3 years of bookkeeping due to the sloppy work done by Bench. Costing us thousands of dollars to redo. Our accountant had to charge us additional bookkeeping services to address the subpar work completed by Bench. When I requested a refund for the 2023 services that were never delivered, one of their managers flatly refused. I strongly advise against using Bench.co for any small business or start-up. Their bookkeepers are incompetent, and their customer service is abysmal. We wasted $3,000 this year alone and have nothing to show for it. Save yourself the headache and find a more reliable bookkeeping service.

I have been with Bench for over 4 years…

I have been with Bench for over 4 years now. I have 2 companies that they do the accounting for an I couldn't be happier. Anytime I have an issue or concern they are quick to respond. Over the four years of being with Bench the two that have impressed me the most are Lauren MacCallum and Renu John! They are both amazing!!!
