A worthy service

Looking for a particular car, viewed several on various sites, hpi' d all, 75% of which had some kind of issue, narrowed down to two,one of which was a non starter, the other seemed too good to be true, ten years old, 29k miles, good order etc etc. Hpi came up clear in the 1st instance, updated with vin and other info on viewing, still clear,so job done. Well worth the outlay for piece of mind and to potentially save oneself a lot of grief when buying a vehicle.

Pointless! Wrong on both occasions & refused to refund

Looking for a 2nd hand Street Triple and saw a nice one in Bristol. Paid for HPI check and they told me the V5 number and VIN number were incorrect. The numbers were correct when I checked with DVLA and the dealer. Same happened with second bike, HPI were wrong; this time I bought the bike. When I complained to HPI and requested a refund, they accused me of getting the numbers wrong and refused to repay my money. Avoid.

Clocked Cars Not Covered because they have no access to MOT records

Saw Car on eBay, got reg, did HPI came back clean. Won auction sent someone 1200kms to get it & bring it back. Had a problem which insurance would sort if i had specific docs, went to seller who didn't wan't to know as I had logbook contact previous owner & found it to be clocked by 100,000 miles. Went to HPI and they stated that guarantee does not cover clocked cars as they don't have access to VOSA MOT database and that they have been in constant contact with VOSA regarding this. VOSA lost this remit 8 Months ago. SO you are paying for a service that is not what it seems

Had to print out my own check shore years ago they use to send it to you on a nice quality bit of paper so you could pass it on as part of your car history so no print history

Essential check for every car purchase

I consider this an essential check for every car purchase - just be aware that the guarantee is quite restrictive. If you by a car to far below 'book' (and their book seems to list a considerably higher price than Parkers) you will not be covered. Even so you can still be pretty certain up to a point that there is no bad history. I say up to a point as I got them to do a check on a car that had clear signs of poorly repaired accident damage (that would probably have made the car an insurance write off) and it came back clear. This highlights the fact that they can only pass on reported information and 'buyer beware' still very much applies. Still worth doing and worth the money. I have even had a car checked before I went to see it as I didn't want to travel a long way to find the car had finance/insurance write off etc against it. The people on the phone are pretty good and even if you are a complete novice they will tell you where to look for the information they need to complete the check. It can never be a cast iron guarantee, but I wouldn't buy a car without doing an HPI check.

Happy People Invest in HPI It's worth every penny for peace of mind.

This won't take long as the HPI service is a necessity when buying a car of which you have no history. It tells you basically whether you should buy it or not, so if you don't know the car and you can't speak to the previous owner or take a mechanic with you then take HPI with you instead.
