waste of money
This does not show up Log Book Loans. I was stung for over 2k even though check was clear. Sued original seller.
Out of date information but process refund fast enough
Partner paid the £20 for the hpi check the report came back with WARNING !!! stating the log book issue date does not match the information provided by DVLA, when we rang to get this checked. Oh that is the investigations team they are off till Tuesday we will investigate then. (Investigate = they will ring DVLA for more upto date information) When pushed over refund "Oh you need the super secret team who can only be contacted via letter or email" Hold on this is a web based business who are using yesterday methods of contact when something goes wrong. Avoid this company at all costs not worth the time to enter your card details let alone the £20 fee. OK Update so the woman from Monster Inc called yesterday, the one who says " Im watching, always watching" Well you certainly had the tone to match. My missus spoke with you and you managed to refund the money, with regards to it being weekend and it being easter and so you could not reach dvla. That really is not my problem if your data is not resynced regularly as in at least once a month, which would have covered this particular case. Then at weekend it would be useful if your site had a pop up that informed me the buyer that your data may be old and moldy and you will not be able to help as it is weekend. I am guessing the large majority of used car purchases are done at the weekend. Therefore the majority of HPI checks will be done at the weekend. So keeping your information upto date is of key importance or as stated your data is as useful as a chocolate fire guard.
Not fit for purpose
I thought the idea was that i punch in the number plate of car i want to buy & hpi check all is ok. Not that simple, Having updated the long list of info/data they required as i managed to access/find it, i waited a month for the new log book to arrive for the remaining data to find i had missed the deadline. When i called to enquire i was told i should have got this info/data from the old log book. (obviously) Its not obvious to me as i renew my cars about once every 10 yrs. And theres no mention of this when you purchase the check. Wont be using hpi again.
Inflexibility and hiding behinf terms and conditions
Hi I purchased a three pack of vehicle checks. The first check I did was in Northern Ireland and it was not until I went to put all my details in that I realized that HPI don't extend their guarantee to NI even though it is still the United Kingdom. I then went to use another of my checks and was told I was over my 3 month period. I don't mind paying my money but really do when people start throwing terms and conditions at you. Sure I should have read these terms I am sure but bottom line is I am not happy and wont ever use this service again
A must when buying a car!
Easy to use, results provided in minutes. Better than text checks which failed to show outstanding finance. Another thing, they have a superb traffic light system which helps you visualise any issues highlighted. Thanks Hpi
Bought a multi check and thought I had two left unused
Rang and spoke to someone called Tom, who was far from helpful. Told that multi checks have a 90 day expiry. Which was never actually advised to me, all I was told was that the information has been on their website since 2013. So basically lost out on something I paid for, these people are con artists, who claim to provide a service, BUT REMEMBER ONLY 90 days to make use of your multi checks. Which was NOT clear at all in January 2014, when I purchased the check, the email I received from them never actually stated that the redemption code has an expiry.
site not helpful
I am tryin to contact hpi because i purchased a check butbhave been charged twice want a refund on my money
Don't do it... Do the checks yourself!!!!!
I used this service to find a scrapped marker and mileage discrepancy on the vehicle I was to go and pick up the next day. I rang DVLA who informed me this information was incorrect and VOSA advised the same about the mileage discrepancy. Eventually find out that a few years back a scrapped marker was accidentally put on the car by a scarp merchant (meaning to use a similar but different car reg) however this was picked up as a mistake and removed from the DVLA system straight away. However HPIcheck.com is using very old and inaccurate information and charging £20 for the pleasure of doing so! I've since gained all of the MOT history from a .gov website which matches all of the service history that was with the car and the DVLA confirmed there are no warning markers of any kind on the car. Don't be fooled by thinking you can't do the checks yourself... For free and completely accurate!!!

WHAT IS THE POINT
My experience was not to good bought car on eBay for £16000.00 and thought best pay out £20.00 for HPI check well everything came back ok. Then I found the car for sale on the forecourt of a major car maker still up for sale the eBay seller was a scam the whole point of having the HPI is to check that all relevant documentation for that vehicle is correct to be told by this HPI company the V5registration document is not matched to the vehicles registration number. SO WHAT IS THE POINT. They may check finance and check if vehicle is stolen but the whole process is pointless if any old V5registration serial number is given.Once again so to me these checks WERE POINTLESS.
