Wimpole Hall used to be a great place but now run down poor facilities poor staff attitudes…

Wimpole Hall used to be a great place to visit. Had something for all the children and the whole family. Now really run down and nothing for children . All investment in new parking areas but very little else. Pandemic remains an excuse for poor attitudes of paid staff and services. Over reliance on volunteers. I called to ask when the adventure playground would re-open as has been closed for 2 years. Many promises made at different intervals ie yes it will open this summer 2021, no it will open at Christmas, no it will open at Easter 2022 etc. Finally told today by obnoxious paid employee that thought the opinions and feedback of paying members of the public was just irrelevant. You really need to listen to this conversation circa 11:45 am 7 April 2022 with the customer unfriendly Claire Childerley! The Wimpole estate aren't prepared to fund this investment despite it being the most visited estate in the country and the worst really now.

The National Trust discriminate against…

The National Trust discriminate against applicants based on their ethnicity and age. My job application was rejected because they are prejudiced towards people with a foreign name.

Hunters Inn at the Heddon Valley Exmoor…

Hunters Inn at the Heddon Valley Exmoor .We were booked in this pub for a two night stay it was a gift and we were looking forward to a enjoyable couple of days. The premise’s have a connection with the National Trust and is operated by bespoke hotels .Before we visited I called to upgrade our room .We arrived and just looking from the outside we were not happy it has scaffold all the way around but forget that it looks run down.Inside it’s not in good shape tired decor and dirty carpets. We were taken up several flights of stairs more worn out carpets and wall coverings,in side our room the UPGRADE it was smelly and if this is the best I dread to think what the standard rooms are like.I told the unlady who showed us around that we were not staying and they could keep the money we paid. This was booked through Virgin. The National Trust and Virgin should investigate where they are offering accommodation because it’s very basic and I would think a youth hostel would offer better .

Cancel your membership.

Cancel your membership. My mother died last year, just after her membership had been renewed. Her bank advised them -I had tried to get in touch before she died -but they don't make it easy and there were more important things to focus on. It turns out that her bank advised them of her death -they cancelled her membership. However, they made not effort to get in touch with us -and they are keeping her money as it is a "donation" so not refund. I am recommending to everyone I know not to renew their membership.

Access for all..not at all

Access for all...yet again the National Trust is fencing off access to the countryside for all and forcing any one with access requirements to use their £5 per day car park. The National Trust in this partof Kent is destroying the landscape, building car park, encouraging the 'fly tipping' version of parking and now fencing of the land. They are a national liability not a national asset. someone needs to stand up to this organisations with £100'smillions in reserves..

What a shambles the National Trust has…

What a shambles the National Trust has become. Attended Tyntesfield today and decided to start our visit with a light lunch of soup roll and coffee in their cafe. Big mistake. It took half an hour to arrive, cold. Then told we could warm it up ourselves in the microwave!!! Stale lump of bread accompanied this soup. This delight cost us the sum of £16.00 for the pair of us. Shame on you National Trust. You are a disgrace.

Hadod y Fedw cottage stay.

Hadod y Fedw cottage stay. Arrived on a Saturday for a birthday holiday stay. The location was perfect. Remote and wonderfully quiet. Woke up Tuesday morning to no heat or light. The generator was not working. Rang the customer ‘services’ at 9 am and was told to leave the keys if we would be leaving in the next hour. No one arrived. Rang several time to speak to disinterested staff who told us they would ring us with an update. They could not contact the local team and could not tell us if it would be fixed that day. At 3.30 returned to the cottage to see the generator had been ‘fixed’ despite being told by a disinterested Ben that it had not been fixed. Half an hour later power went off again. We ended up being shunted to a cottage the exact opposite to the one we had booked - bang on (and I mean ON the A470, no log burner and VERY noisy). Reading visitor notes in the visitor book at Hafod Y Fedw and the cottage we were shunted to indicates this is not an isolated issue and there were several annoyed people. We ended up having to pack and decamp in the pitch black and pouring rain. As there was no power all emergency lighting was not functioning and the torches supplied were poorly maintained. This resulted in one of the party falling down the steep stairs and twisting their ankle. Happy Birthday! This cottage should not be let until the completely inadequate power supply is sorted. NT ask you to leave reviews on Feefo so that they can pretend they are concerned and will contact you. When they don’t you cannot leave a comment advising their response is a sham. Have been using NT cottages for many years, several times a year. No longer. Next holiday booked through another company. NT holidays have deteriorated since McGrady took over.

Wimpole Hall (Herts) an NT estate ruined by new hideous car parks

Wimpole Hall (Herts) is an NT property. The car parks used until recently, allowed us to walk to the very attractive entrance. Sometimes very muddied, but everyone knew that and just enjoyed the walks and visit and, given the choice, would not have chosen the new horrible wasteland that now leads us, via mean buildings, to the admission. They have made a most hideous entrance, the sort of car parks you might expect at a theme park, the whole approach to the hall feels like a punishment, exacerbated by the most hideous buildings roofed with corrugated iron, totally out of character with the whole place, an exercise in mundanity, looking like a box ticking exercise to create a miserable approach to the estate. The NT may not be in brilliant hands, but it doesn't have to be this bad, there can be no overall instruction to produce planned ugliness. Maybe that's a futile hope.

Really poor value for money

Really poor value for money. During the past year we have only used our membership 3 times and all three properties were a disappointment. After getting scammed with offers of M&S Vouchers and binoculars which failed to materialise, we also had to chase the actual membership tickets and book. All in all we have been thoroughly disappointed and will not be renewing this year

Been a member for the past few years…

Been a member for the past few years and always think it is good value. When we fo on holiday we always check for national trust places around for a free day out and have used the car parks a few times for free parking. Have been disappointed with the extreme Covid measures that still seem to be in place in some places and also the closure of some play areas over winter. Would still recommend, as is a cheap day put if you have a free weekend and some stunning places ro visit throughout the year. Wish we had a few more places local so we didn't keep going to the same ones.
