Awful website
For such a big organisation, their website is appalling. Trying to renew my membership online. I logged in fine, went to the renew page, I need to log in again. Input the same details I just used, the renew page says they can't find my details, that my email/password is incorrect, despite already logging in with the same details on the previous page. Then it says if I previously had a 'My National Trust' account, I'll need to re-register. Ok, so maybe that's the issue. I go to re-register, nope, you already have an account using these details. Ok, lets try 'forgot my password', get the password reset link, input a new password, click to submit the new password, page just refreshes. Try again, same thing. Maybe NT don't confirm your new password has been changed, I'll try to log in using the password I just input on the password change page. Nope, that doesn't work either. So I cannot log in using my details, I cannot re-register using my details and I cannot change my password, so therefore I cannot renew my membership online. And now I'm locked out of my account due to too many password attempts. I've given up and won't be renewing. Wonder how many customers you lose because of this...
Very poor
We have been avid NT members for many many years and still keep our membership going even though we don’t visit as often. I read recently there is a senior concession for 60 year olds (not widely advertised). Having rung up twice now over two months to alter our membership we have been told to ring again next month as it’s too late to change it this month! I feel we are being fobbed off; so once again we pay another month at the full rate. Judging by reviews read here the NT are not doing themselves any favours which is a terrible shame.
As much as I support the NT and enjoy…
As much as I support the NT and enjoy going to places I have an issue. I rang to get the 25% discount, the person on the phone sounded as she did not enjoy her job, sounded quite miserable and was very unwelcoming. Made me feel that I was a unwelcome intrusion on her day. Left me wondering if she would have preferred me to stop my membership rather inconveniencing her with a reduction so that I can stay and support
Try having just a little consideration…
Try having just a little consideration for people working at the lower grades. Taking a bonus off grade 11’s because the grade 10 pay is too close. Wouldn’t occur to them to actually improve grade 10 pay to more than a few pence above minimum wage. Try communicating with upper management! Hilarious! state of shock that you would dare to do that. Higher management far too happy with themselves. Talk to people on lower grades! their opinion of you is low. Try to appreciate your workers a little more, would not recommend as employers under any circumstances

No clarity, no information and very poor customer service
I made an application to join with my partner for life on the 3rd of January. The National Trust have taken my money from my credit card, but I have received no notification that there was a problem until my wife called them to cancel her membership because of this new membership. They didn’t call me. When I called I discovered there was an ‘incomplete’ membership and that someone would sort it out and get back to me. Four hours later. I called again to find out what’s going on and the lady I spoke to can’t tell me why it was incomplete and the only solution is to send my money back. I have asked to speak to a manager but that is not possible. The only solution is to wait for 2 to 3 days until someone calls me with a refund and a re-application. Not very good customer service at all, especially when they can’t tell me why it has been incomplete or assure me that it won’t be incomplete again, very disappointing.
We found the Aira Force National Trust…
We found the Aira Force National Trust coffee shop closed during opening times. Staff briefing, the notice on the door said and indeed we could see staff sitting inside talking. It was freezing cold, we came from afar and we were dying for a cup of coffee. What do you think about that?
Peppercombe Bothy
We have a little Bothy, here in Peppercombe, on the North Devon coast, its nothing more than a, damp, stone building, with a sink, two wooden raised platforms to put an airbed, sleep mat etc on, and an outside loo. Last year, this very basic accommodation, could be yours for £40 per night, and for one night only. This year, the NT, have the audacity, to ask £100 for two nights, with no one night option. I only live five miles away from this bothy and have stayed in it on many occasions and believe me, it is basic and nowhere near worth the money they're asking, for example, not once has the bothy been cleaned, checked etc, between bookings and on a few occasions I've sorted out issues myself. I carry out work for the NT as a sub-contractor and see first hand the way things are run, and if I had left a legacy to them, I'd be turning in my grave. Unfortunately, these price hikes are necessary to compensate for the incompetency, of those that run the trust. A trustpilot rating of 2.1 for the so called 'custodians' of so much of our heritage, speaks volumes. They're getting no more of my money.
Truly a wonderful organisation
Truly a wonderful organisation. Properties a bit dark now due to their over the top concerns over daylight which is fine but when you cannot actually see the rooms properly and are tripping over it is a cause for concern. That said what a great club to join. Fab.
Be careful making card transactions.
The National Trust have an auto renew when you join which I was not aware of. When I tried to pay over the phone my last DD payment so I could make sure another year's fees would not be taken, they took £147.40 out of my account instead of the monthly £12. I immediately saw their error but they were not able to refund the money - It has to be investigated. Meanwhile they have £130 in their account which is my money. * My bank has now refunded the error. I had a swift reply from NT about the error which they acknowledged -due to computer error. The only issue is that it would take 21 days to refund. This is not acceptable if they are able to take money from your account they should be able to expediate a refund faster than that. If my bank hadn't helped with this issue I would still be without this money. NT have given me a month's DD of £12 as a goodwill gesture. Be careful making card payments.
Paying for a walk
Went to Wimpole Hall to just walk around the estate grounds on a nice day. Not being NT members we expected to pay for parking. On arrival we found a large new car park that was free. However after parking you are funnelled to what appears to be the only entrance, where you are told it’s £9 per person to enter. No one tells you that it costs nothing to walk on the permissive and totally free public footpaths that cross the entire estate. What a deceitful sleight of hand by the NT trying to charge £36 for four people to walk on public footpaths. It leaves a really bad taste. Never again.
