Rebel Energy Left Us Stressed, Broke, and Betrayed – Avoid at All Costs!

Rebel Energy has been an absolute nightmare to deal with, and the stress they’ve caused us is beyond belief. When we moved out of our property, we had to CHASE them for a final bill. We provided final readings multiple times—first via phone, then via email—only to be met with complete incompetence. They had no record of our conversations, forcing us to go in circles. Eventually, when we finally spoke to an agent, they confirmed our bill was settled. Fast forward over a year later, and out of nowhere, we receive a demand for £1,112 for a tenancy that ended long ago. Apparently, this is for over seven months of energy usage, yet at no point were we ever informed we owed anything or that we were going over on usage. We were blindsided. When we challenged them, they claimed to have contacted us multiple times—only for their own agent to admit that they hadn’t. Now, we’re struggling to afford our current bills as it is, and to be hit with this unexpected demand has been nothing short of traumatic. The stress and anxiety they’ve caused are completely unacceptable. It is shocking that a company can operate like this, with zero accountability. Rebel Energy is nothing more than a money-grabbing, dishonest company that preys on customers. If you value your sanity and financial stability, stay as far away as possible!

Can't get rid of them

The provider initiates switching me to their service despite my current provider and my repeated requests to stop. Initially, they aggressively marketed their service through Lettings Hub, taking advantage of my status as new to the UK.

Threatening letter, but helpful agent.

The company sent me a letter threatening debt collection over a year later, despite no prior contact. However, De-Juan was extremely helpful and empathetic—he answered all my questions politely and handled the call professionally

They forget to issue bills, then threaten Debt Collectors…

Had a lovely email from Rebel today after switching away from them several months ago. Seems they forgot to issue me a final bill, then finally did several months later alongside an email threatening Debt Collections. I originally switched away from them after moving into a new property and being thoroughly unimpressed at their settling in process – very glad I did. Avoid.

Very helpful

Yesterday, I spoke to a really helpful guy named Danwill, he was very patient with me because I did need guidance and he was understanding and vey charming. So happy to resolve in quick chat with someone who knows what they are doing. He is extremely helpful. Thanks again to Danwill. I would give him more than 5 stars if I can.

Grossly Incompetent

This company are incompetent and do not maintain accurate records. In October I moved into a property already supplied by Rebel Energy. I did not wish to remain a customer of Rebel Energy and so transferred to another supplier. I received an initial bill upon opening an account with Rebel Energy which I paid immediately via debit card through the website receiving a confirmation email by reply. A few days later, after my transfer, I received a final statement which included an additional charge for the days in between my first bill and transfer. Again this was paid immediately and confirmed. Now in February 2025 I have received an email demanding payment of the sum already paid accompanied by entirely false statements that the company have made “repeated attempts” to contact me. These demands are accompanied by a threat to pass this to a collection agency. I have provided Rebel Energy with copies of the receipts they sent for the payments made and requested an apology. I shall update this review should they respond effectively. If they do not then I shall proceed to the Energy Ombudsman. UPDATE 1 20/02/25 I note I have received a reply here on Trustpilot but not to my own direct communication. That Rebel Energy may have decided to send a threatening email to a large number of customers in one go does not explain why you have failed to accurately record payments made two months ago. UPDATE 2 - 21 February I have observed on both Trustpilot and Google a number of recent reviews from other unfortunate customers reporting very similar issues to myself: unwarranted threats about non-existing debts. It is interesting that all of the Trustpilot and Google reviews are responded to quickly and yet I - still - have yet to hear from Rebel Energy directly.

Avoid Rebel at ALL costs!

Absolutely horrific customer service. I raised an issue on 12th November 2024 as they had tried to charge us a higher standing charge than was stated on our 'welcome pack' contract. 'Philk' from customer service had to raise the issue to Head Office as apparently no one in the customer service team could work out why the charge was above the contracted price. To this date, we have chased 3 times to get this resolved and been told 'it's still being looked into'. I have just received a threatening email stating that if I don't pay a £339 bill within 48 hours they would send me to debt collectors - despite them still having not resolved the issue. To demonstrate their incompetence, they sent the email at 5.45pm stating their phone lines were open until 6.00pm - I called immediately and the answerphone message states their lines close at 4.30pm. I then emailed in response to their threatening email and the auto-response states that they're open until 7.00pm - just farcical. Avoid at all costs and go with a company who have customer service like Octopus!
