Standards have slipped
I have used Permaframe for most of the doors and windows in my house without issue. It is obvious that standards have dropped as when I reported an issue with hinges on a bathroom window, it took from late July to the 30 October to get this fixed. When I phoned to find out what the delay was I was told that there was an emergency elsewhere, or they been sent the wrong part, and finally lo and behold the maintenance guy had a problem with his tablet! Strange that after I was told we were the first job ie between 8am and 9am, he said he had to wait until 9am to find out his jobs for the day, he finally arrived just before 11am. I checked with him that these hinges were still available and was told by him that they were...not true. It appears that once they have sold you products they aren't interested.
Replacement Conservatory Roof
Unfortunately my experience with this company was not all it could have been. I bought a house with an ageing conservatory, most of the glazed roof panels had blown and needed to be replaced. I wanted them replaced with glass as solid ones would have affected the amount light in my living room. Permaframe claim on their Website that their solar control panels will stop the problem of a conservatory feeling too hot in summer and too cold in winter, which was just what I needed. The salesman who attended was very pleasant and did his job of getting me to sign up for the work during his visit. He took basic measurements and I was given a demonstration of how well the glass repels heat. As the price quoted seemed fair based on my market research I signed up for the work. A few days later a surveyor visited to take the measurements. As I was working from home I did not stand and watch him, although did notice he climbed up and down on one piece of furniture several times. After 15 minutes or so he left. A week after the first surveyor's visit I had call from the salesman explaining a second surveyor visit would be necessary as the first surveyor's measurements did not match those he had taken. I had to take time away from office again to accommodate this second visit which was done by a different surveyor. Luckily this time the measurements were correct and I received confirmation a few days later that my order was being processed. The installation itself was booked for 30th August to 1st September. I arranged to work from home again and made all the necessary preparations, moving all the furniture out of the conservatory. On 30th August the installers had not arrived during the 9 to 10 am slot advised and I had to ring the office to be told they were dealing with rubbish from the previous day's job first. I received a "courtesy call" at 10.40 am to check the installers had arrived from another team member, who was obviously unaware I had already checked. As they had not yet arrived he chased this up. A little after 11 am the installers arrived and immediately told me they believed there was a problem with the order. They checked the conservatory and confirmed they had been supplied with the wrong fittings. They informed their manager who asked if they could cut the fittings to shape but they said no as they would not then be long enough. The job was therefore postponed. As a side note the installation team had not been supplied with any floor protection materials which would have meant they could not start the job that day anyway. Over the next few days I had to constantly chase what was being done. I did not receive an apology or one call from Permaframe without pursuing them. When I asked when the job would be booked back in their initial response was they didn't know. It was only when I escalated to the complaints department that a new installation date became miraculously available at the beginning of October. The installation team were two very good lads, worked well and are the reason for the two stars (though I didn't appreciate having to pick up all the moss from the guttering that they chucked under the shrubs in my flower border). Whilst the roof certainly looks better, and the glass appears to be good quality I am afraid I have not noticed any improvement in insulation as promised on Permaframe's Website and during the salesman's visit. It may be to get the full benefit of the solar control I would need the side windows replaced also, in which case it would have been good to have been properly advised at the sales stage so I could make a more informed decision. Unfortunately, I feel I have paid a considerable sum for a product that does not give me the benefits claimed on the Website.
Satisfied long term customer.
I have been a customer through 3 different installations over some 25 years. It's an established company. Ours is a big house with conservatory, with time things move or need readjusting, These guys have a service engineer that comes and readjusts if needed. It is a great service. Installation of new windows has generally been good and mistakes are corrected without quibble.
Very pleased with our windows
We are extremely pleased with our new sash windows. They look so good. The measuring up was done effectively and accurately. Andy and Adam installed the windows and they were brilliant. They took enormous care removing the old windows and made the new windows look perfect in our Victorian house. They made the whole process as stress free as possible. Would definitely recommend Permaframe based on our experience.
