I would like to thank Helen Wilson who very kindly took me from Wray Castle to Hawkshead after i fell ill with cardiac problems. A local taxi firm was going to take two hours to collect me and Helen went above and beyond in helping me. I can't thank her enough.
Another great day out at Kingston Lacy
Another great day out at Kingston Lacy, including free loan of an electric buggy for Dad. Good healthy food, and friendly reception staff. Nothing to fault.

I find it hard to imagine why national trust do not enable one to download ones membership onto ones phone. Many of us go out these days with our phones and no wallet or purse with cash and pay for items from ones phone. Even railcards are online now. Also the level of catering falls well below the level of many similar establishments and as such one no longer wishes to call in for tea and cakes.

I can't get used to the officiousness of the staff who work at NT I visited Claremont and had not remembered my membership card ...got a lecture on how it cost NT an extra £4 to look up my info Then a second lecture on the inconvenience it caused because I wanted a non dairy milk in my cappuccino Im just about getting used to having to show the card multiple times at one site....I got another lecture on the need for this top security to protect revenue

Recently visited Plas Newydd House and Garden. as always enjoyed the house, garden and views. However, felt discriminated from a part of NT staff who didn't even wanted to answer to my question. I do understand that i might have some foreign accent.. but... that was really unexpected and rude. As someone said there is always first time for everything...
Just one more terrible experience…
We had cause to telephone the NT as we wanted to visit Scotney Castle and parking had to be booked by 9am on the day of visit. First off, we’re on holiday so are not on a schedule. We often decide what we want to do that morning. Secondly why does parking at a property consisting of house/garden/castle and 780 acres of parkland have to be booked in advance? Is it THAT small? When we telephoned at 10 we were told there was no availability at all!! Really?? Booked all day on a Monday? I do not believe it. How do they know how long each visitor is going to stay?? It just doesn’t wash! Also they are not able to book parking over the phone anyway. We are members (unfortunately) but we could’ve been about to pay the usual extortionate entrance fee to visit but we didn’t get that far in the conversation so the NT have potentially thrown away money. I had to hold my nose to join the NT after all the negative press in the last few years but as a history nut I still thought it would be worth it. I was wrong. They are a shower of s…
Non refundable membership
Non refundable, not clearly stated at the time of purchase, not many things to do in my area, from a few locations chosen to visit, for more than half I still have to pay the parking. Just be mindful for what you are actually signing up for, no cooling off period. Feeling like the membership is designed to take the money off you with little in exchange. My mistake for not checking better t&c in advance.

Stourhead
Loved the stunning landscape and the house. It's kept in pretty good order. The staff on hand were helpful as ever. I'm a member so visit a lot of different NT properties, many each year.
Poor experience at Sissinghurst
I went with my daughter and 7 month old baby to Sissinghurst yesterday . The baby was in a small buggy and we were made to feel very unwelcome ! The gardens were magnificent and the ladies serving in the old dairy were lovely however all the other elderly ladies looked down their noses at us . There was 3 babies in for the whole time we were there but many tens of elderly people with roller zimmer frames and wheelchairs - we asked why they could go in but not a buggy - she said in her condescending voice that you couldn’t stop the disabled from entering - yet it’s ok to stop mothers with babies ! That is discrimination to young mothers. If they had been kind and friendly we would have understood but they had a very snooty, high and mighty attitude - I was very disappointed and told the lady this and she replied “well I’m sorry you feel disappointed” but her tone was very condescending- we did carry the baby round but in the main restaurant my daughter wasn’t even able to sit down with the baby as we were accused of jumping the queue - no she was just tired !! Again it was ATTITUDE Poor poor experience ! I have been a member of the Natioal Trust for at least 10 years and this was a horrible experience - staff training is needed here . There is never an excuse for rudeness !
It isn’t only the buns that are stale, hard and unappetising……
The management of the National Trust are bored by the job, ashamed of what they are supposed to preserve and protect, and almost entirely ignorant of the history surrounding the buildings and landscapes consigned to their care. It does seem to me if you wish to look after something you give the job to someone who really wants to do it, no? Someone interested, deeply committed, knowledgeable, involved, yes? Someone who will fight tooth and nail to fund, protect and preserve it all, who does not think the job demeaning or somehow beneath them. Not to a group of self-interested, selfish, shallow, insincere wasters clutching worthless ‘Mickey Mouse’ degrees who immediately throw in with those who hate our country, our heritage and everything generations of Englishmen have stood for. The images of gurning faces on the National Trust website look like ‘Realtors’ in American local papers, row upon row of grinning morons looking for commission, only interested in money and themselves…. ….Quite the opposite of the quiet, dedicated, enthusiastic, academically brilliant priesthood of former times. Hilary McGrady? For God’s sake, woman, just GO.
