I'm a bit amazed at the bad reviews
I'm a bit amazed at the bad reviews. We've been members for over a decade and have always loved our experiences. Every site we've been to has been well looked after, staffed by friendly people, and had a lot going on. I'm always especially impressed at the accessibility. My dad is disabled and has dementia, but has been able to thoroughly enjoy the sites we've taken him to. Staff have always been kind and patient with him, and the scooter/wheelchair hire at many sites are a lifesaver. Seaton Delaval is a prime example of everything I love about NT. Thanks for all the memories, National Trust!
Disappointing sandwich
I have given one star for the egg and mayo sandwich I bought today at Greyfriars Worcester. I think of NT as having good quality food. Their scones are particularly good. However I will not be buying a NT sandwich again. It was very dry with the slightest hint of mayo, if any at all, and oh dear all those E numbers, 10 in total, and does it actually need "natural flavouring" which anyone knows is not natural at all. Come on NT I expect better than this. I will certainly be taking my own healthy sandwich in future and saving myself a few pounds too. It spoiled a very interesting visit.
Do not buy this if you live in Canada…
Do not buy this if you live in Canada or the USA. It is only useful for a few sites. It’s very expensive! I asked for a refund the day after I purchased the pass online from canada as I realized I bought the wrong pass. I live in Canada. They said they can not give me a refund. Which is unethical in my opinion. You need to buy the nationaltrustcanada.ca pass it is a fraction of the price. In response - I bought the joint membership which was almost $300 canadian dollars. I could have and should have bought the Canadian one which was about $40 dollars Canadian, or $80 for both. I asked for a refund within 24 hours. The UK laws state that buyers can request a refund within 14 days. I have not used this pass. I am still in Canada. Do not buy this pass. There are many other options. after I purchased this I did a search on where it can be used. I put in Scotland - zero results? I put in Canada - zero results. it can only be used at a few places. I am kindly requesting a refund please.
Always enjoyed going to National Trust…
Always enjoyed going to National Trust sites. Some are better than others so make sure you do your research. One of the best is Stourhead if you are looking for a weekend adventure.
A charity that displayed little empathy to acute leukaemia diagnosis
I booked 2 cottages over 2 separate weekends over August. I only booked these at the end of July 2024 so I had them booked for around 2 weeks or less. Unfortunately I suffered a relapse of my Acute Myeloblastic Leukaemia on 09/08/2024 and would need to go into hospital so had to cancel the bookings. Out of the £1402 they refunded me £350 asking me to check back after the holiday dates to see if they had resold. If they had, they would refund, if not, they wouldn’t. I explained that I’d be undergoing intense chemotherapy and that time wasn’t on my side. However, they stated they treat everyone the same no matter what the circumstances. I think people should be treated according to their individual needs. The diagnosis was crushing for me and my family and you would think that companies would support you in dire times like these. Unfortunately I’ve learned that this is not the case and the National Trust are no different. My sick note was provided to show I was genuine but it made no difference. I escalated the complaint and was told I will hear something within 10 days. I escalated this to their head office where they said the same. Time is a luxury I really don’t have. If I’d had the cottages booked for 6 months or more, I could understand me costing them money, but to lose over £1000 for having something booked for less than 2 weeks seems incredibly harsh. With AML my odds are small so you would think one of thd largest charities on the UK would be sympathetic to your plight. But it appears at present that money comes before compassion. To say I’m disappointed at their response is an understatement. It’s been over 3 days now and still no response from their head office. They may highlight travel insurance, a pertinent response. However, I don’t think this is right under these circumstances. I really like the National Trust and thought they stood for something more. I and other family members will be cancelling our memberships. A charity treating someone like this after a soul destroying diagnosis….it makes me really lose faith. Cancer really affects a families finances but the National Trust - who I understand holds around £1.5bn in assets - requires my money so much more than me. It feels really shameful and to say I’m saddened. Why waste precious time writing this review? I really hope that companies reflect on the way they treat people who are suffering from Acute Leukaemia and I really hope they put compassion before money. ***********reply from the National Trust****** ********they even took the admin fee******** Dear Graham Thank you for contacting our Director General, Hilary McGrady, about your holiday cottage bookings. You’d also previously requested they escalate to our Head of Holidays, Rachel Johnston. I’m responding to your concerns in line with Step 2 of our complaints procedure. I’m sorry to hear of your health concerns, it’s such a shame you had to cancel your bookings. I hope your treatment goes as well as possible. I can see we’ve explained why we can’t provide full refunds. I appreciate why you’re disappointed given your circumstances but I’m afraid I can only agree with the information we’ve provided already. However, since your previous correspondence with us, I’m pleased to confirm we resold the nights you cancelled at The Victorian Laundry. We’re currently arranging a refund of £500.83 which will arrive back to the card you paid from in the next 3-5 working days. This refund is less the £25 admin charge. We’re still advertising the nights for Ravenscar Chapel Cottage. I’ll personally check daily to see if they resell and will ensure any additional refund is processed as quickly as possible if they do. I’ll be in touch to confirm if that’s the case. I’m sorry this won’t entirely be the outcome you hoped for. However, I hope seeing the refund being processed for The Victorian Laundry gives some reassurance about our ‘Book with Confidence’ policy. As Natacha previously mentioned, we’re happy to support with any travel insurance claim you may be able to make. Thanks again for contacting us and again wish you all the best for your ongoing treatment. Kind regards
Very Unfair
My membership ended on 30th June 2024. I applied for membership again on 3rd August. National Trust have given me 12 months membership from 30th June thereby cheating me out of one months membership. I would have expected better. Do they always cheat people like this?
Don't buy their national trust overseas visitor passes
I would give them zero if possible. Complete waste of money to buy the national trust overseas visitor passes. They can't be used in any reciprocal entry agreements, such as English Heritage (including Stonehenge and Housesteads Fort), National Trust for Scotland or other International National Trusts Organisation members. The explorer pass only covers very remote areas that no tourist cares (or could be visited for free without the passes).
Response from National trust
Further to my previous negative comments a lady from National Trust contacted me, investigated, apologised and re started my membership. I thank her so much for taking the time and trouble to do this

Love being a member.
Second year of membership and have visited some fabulous places. Worth it if you split the cost with a friend. We used public transport to get to all the venues and are now venturing further afield. Some of the guides have been superb. The staff, most of them volunteers are wonderful. Only had one member of staff who was less than helpful. The app is thorough and handbook and magazine are a good read.
NT at Copt Hall waste of subscription
NT at Copt Hall, co5 7rd, well its fair to say that the site has been neglected, to a point where because of near waist high grass its almost a danger to walk on some of the so called permissive paths, you have not been able to navigate the sea wall most of this spring/summer & while the web site shows a nice vista being enjoyed...... its from last year 23, we have been members for 3 years thinking that to be one, gives us a voice to comment, nothing further from the truth, despite several emails NT just pass the buck & wont answer, those that do venture to this site are likely to be met by numerous commercial dog walkers who use it as part of their business`s, & my best guess "not NT members" with no proof of insurance, as NT wont answer this! which brings the mess they leave in their wake, supporting the NT is not on my to do list next year & I will do what the others do....... enjoy the limited facility for free,..... like the rest,............Reply to NT: Nobody has tried to contact me to discuss anything, & getting any informative reply to my enquiries has been a bit like "pass the parcel"..... pass the buck :), as for the sea wall, at last an admission that the Environment agency are to blame! yet they cut miles of surrounding walls a treat, Your description of remote is rather silly! with Colchester City Pop:120K+ Mersea 8k & minutes drive away, & the alleged small carpark hosting up to 15 cars/vans on any given day, being the 1st through the gate most days.....I will leave it there, with no further interest,
