National Trust

I have been a member of the national Trust for years and fully enjoy going to the different sites. What I will say is we have always enjoyed the beautiful food which we never minded paying a premium for but on the last visit to Lanhydrock the food was very disappointing and not worth the money. Shame as is always a part of a great day.

Lacock Sables Resturant

Visited Lacock on Friday and the first call was to the Sables Resturant for a coffee, Very poor selection and could not offer any warm food, no Bacon Butties. My Granddaughter does not drink fizzy drinks and the only option we were offered was Water. The Govenrment keeps on telling us not to buy children fizzy drinks so why do the National Trust promote them. Thoroughy enjoyed the rest of the day both the Village and Abbey but the selection in the Restuarnt lets you down John.

Always an enjoyable experience.

I see a lot of negative reviews for The National Trust but to be honest I personally cannot see why. My family and I have been members for a couple of years now and we've visited many sites, we've never had a bad experience yet. I suppose the days are what you make of it but we've always enjoyed ourselves and found any staff members more than friendly and helpful too.

Neglected borders

Both myself and my partner decided to return again to Mottisfont near Romsey as the last visit was quite a few years ago . The gardens were absolutely stunning back then and we talked about them to friends and family showing them wonderful pics of all areas . However today was a totally different story we both are sorry to say but the gardens where in a very poor state .Both of us are gardeners and we could see the amount of work that needs to be done . Each border had large areas of weeds including bind weed the plants were looking very stressed. We however had a most enjoyable walk a long the river .

Birmingham Back to Backs, National trust.

Visited the Birmingham Back to Backs on Friday the weather was lovely which always helps, it's very interesting looking back at how people used to live and how tough life was, we had a guided called Ross he was very informative and new his stuff, he made it light hearted even though life was a struggle for the people who lived in those times, it takes about 1.5 hours for the guided tour which goes surprisingly fast. Excellent day out. Plenty of bars and restaurants nearby ,New street station is about 10 to 15 minutes walk.

Return visit to Washington Old Hall

Having visited the Hall with my husband and a friend we found the 15 minute staggered entrance very useful as we didn't feel rushed or overcrowded. The Hall guides Paul & Chloe gave an interesting & engaging introductory talk. They answered all questions comprehensively. Talking to Paul outside later he was able to give us further interesting facts and to point out things for us to go back and look for. To have him impart his extensive local knowledge took our visit to a much higher level of enjoyment. When I last visited the Hall pre covid there were no guides & although the interpretation boards were good their content was limited and as a person who has studied history I felt they lacked depth. However we all left this time feeling we had learnt so much more about the house, its illustrious and non-illustrious occupants and it's recent visitors and about Frederick Hill's work to restore the Hall. We all hope that these wonderful talks will continue, perhaps with an option for a more in depth guided tour of the rooms (maybe prebooked).

The Needles Isle of Wight

As a part of a boating trip we went to Isle of Wight and as we had an afternoon free rented bicycles from Yarmouth. We cycled along the trails and across to The Needles. We only had about 40 minutes before we needed to cycle back to Yarmouth to return the bikes. It would have cost us £7 each to spend 30 or so minutes in the visitor centre which is controlled and charged for by The National Trust. That would have worked out at £21 which seems too much money for the time we had. We are happy to support maintenance fees that are reasonable and proportionate however due to that not being the case left disappointed not to be able to check out a bit of our UK heritage in the brief time we had on the island.

Hinton Ampner the worst I have ever…

Hinton Ampner the worst I have ever seen it. Have known Lord Sherborne, Ralph Dutton I feel the way this bequeathed estate is an insult to his memory. The Head Gardener appears to have no passion for the Estate, one only has to look at his own garden, so not worth discussing😡
