Terrible company

Terrible company. I didn't read through their terms and conditions where it in fine print mentions their non-refundable deposit unlike other NZ rental car companies. I emailed the cancellation before they even came back with the confirmation. Regardless, I couldn't get my money back. Terrible company. Terrible and deceitful terms and conditions at the end. Rent somewhere else.

well prepared cars

Old cars, but well prepared, for this price you dont get anything better. Compare to other companies you just overpay.

Terms and conditions 🤮

They gave me another campervan than the one I booked, introducing me as an upgrade but clearly a downgrade ahah. Their terms and conditions are unilateral, just cry if you have signed it… They are lucky (rentals) that all campervan hirers are disgusting scammers

Empty Gas Bottle

When we did our vehicle induction with one of the Lucky Rentals employees, they gave the gas bottle a shake and said it was fine and about halfway full. We didn't question why we weren't given a full gas bottle as we assumed that was standard practice. We had a 16-day road trip of the NZ South Island, staying at powered sites with shared camp kitchens, however had three nights booked near the start of our trip at Mount Cook NP at a non-powered camping area. We arrived and used the gas bottle for the first time to boil a small pot of water and the gas turned off. The gas bottle was not half full, but on empty. We could not cook any of our food and was told by the company to drive to the nearest town Twizel (47 min drive) to get a refill. This was not an option for us as we wanted to enjoy the full length of time, we had booked at Mount Cook plus the wasted fuel costs. After persistently negotiating with the company, they did finally agree that if we kept a receipt of the gas bottle refill purchase, they would reimburse the price. At the start of this conversation, they were not willing to accept fault, but glad they made this concession. We ended up cutting our trip short by a day cause our food started to defrost and we couldn't cook. So we headed to Twizel and guess what? There were no gas refills in the town available. We ended up not purchasing any refills for the remaindered of our trip because we were staying at powered sites with camp kitchens available. Upon return of our vehicle, we explained our gas bottle debacle to one of the employees who said 'oh we have full gas bottles here for people to take upon their van pick up. You should have been given a full gas bottle'. So annoying.

Lots of space

Wanted a lot of space, not a brand-new car. Got a perfect 7-seater with loads of space. Great service, for a very decent price. If you're not after a shiny new model, Scotties can help you out.

Below all standards, book somewhere else

The explanation we got with the van was beneath all standards. When asked how to dispose of the greywater, we were told to "just put the hose on". We had to find the button to activate the disposal ourselves when doing this for the first time. When asking if the fridge also worked on the gas, we got a positive answer. After a couple of days off-grid, we in fact noticed that our fridge stopped working because it in fact is not working on the gas when standing off grid. We were not familiar with the automatic gears that also have the 3 and 2 options so we asked for some explanation but were told "not to worry about it". It was only 2500km later that we found out we were driving in 3rd gear all of the time! Next to this explanation being beneath all standards, we encountered a leak in our water storage for which we spend half a day of our holiday at a garage trying to get it fixed. The only thing we were lucky about is that we managed to not lock ourselves out of our campervan these three weeks as none (!!) of the doors could be both opened and closed from the outside. The door on the drivers side could be closed from the outside but not opened, and vice-versa for the door on the passenger side. In summary, I would recommend to not book with this company but pay a bit more at another company for a decent campervan.

Generally very good value for money overall.

Generally, the vehicles are very good for our purpose - travelling quickly and with good fuel economy. The minor issues that we have experienced include - saucepan too small for a two -person meal, fridge failing ( not sure if it was operator error or fridge fault, electric sliding door occasionally having a problem shutting, no gas to get started with, not enough bedding for cold conditions. Otherwise very good.

Never again!

The following points relate to the vehicle itself: - The tires were under-inflated when I picked them up - The engine light comes on in the morning when the engine is cold - Fan/cooler makes a lot of noise in the morning - Front left light defective - The entire left side squeaks when braking - Left side mirror constantly falls down - Windshield wipers do not wipe well - Windshield full of stone chips when taking over the vehicle - Vehicle has not been properly cleaned inside (cobwebs) or outside - Mileage at takeover: 390'000km In addition to the very outdated kitchen equipment, there are the following defects in the furnishings: - Ceilings are moldy - Fridge lock is defective, causing it to open while driving - Gas stove does not work properly - Window frame is defective and pops out of the holder when opened - LED interior lighting defective - In general, the vehicle smells very bad
