Stay far away from Varsity Tutors!

It is very easy to get in touch with them to get started, but they refuse to answer the phone to cancel (and keep charging you despite providing no services). I have been on hold right now for over a half hour trying to talk to the billing department - and will eventually have to give up because I am at work and have to go to a meeting. I called them to set up tutoring for a student I mentor - she needed help in freshman (college) biology. They assured me they could find me a tutor and immediately charged me $499. They spent a couple of weeks to find a tutor, then a week to schedule the first tutoring session, and then the tutor cancelled. By this point, my mentee was failing bio and needed to drop it - so there was no more need for the tutoring. She thought she canceled, but clearly not because I got billed for another month. Now they just won't answer the phone (I've tried multiple time) so I can't cancel. This must be illegal. I would strongly recommend staying far far away from this company.

1 I gave them because there is no…

1 I gave them because there is no option for 0. Beware of this platform. They charge you upfront for 4 classes for a month which is almost 300 dollars and put your credit card for autopay. I paid them upfront month an a half ago for my daughter for chemistry classes. She just took 1 class in one an a half month because no tutors available. Luckily I cancel my subscription and told them I don’t want to see any more charges otherwise they keep charging with no return. Very very bad customer service. I want my full refund because my daughter didn’t get classes their teachers and not affiliated.

This is a horrible company

This is a horrible company. They charged me 21 months of an auto subscription that I never authorized or even knew about. I signed up for 2 months of tutoring via a phone call to this company but I never signed up for an auto renewing subscription. I didn't notice the charges because my credit card is set up for auto payment and I rarely use that card so I don't check my monthly statements. When I called the company to speak to someone about getting a refund, I just get the run around and was told someone will get back to me. Shame on you Varsity Tutors. Yeah, they say they will reach out to me and yeah they say they will refund my money but no action - just words. Btw, if anyone is thinking of using their services just know that these 5 star trust pilot reviews are most likely fake. If you want to know the true story about Varsity Tutors check out the complaints on the Better Business Bureau and 1 star reviews on Yelp.

Getting Better Everyday!!

Getting Better Everyday!! Previously, I have struggled with retention and test taking. Working closely with Kelsey, I've learned better test taking techniques. She's shaped our sessions around my weaknesses. I'd recommend her without reservation. John Perez - Dec. 12, 2024

Very overpriced and very mediocre

Overall, I feel like I have received the short end of the stick with this service. When I initially signed up, it took a week for me to even get paired with a tutor. Then when I did get matched up, the tutor no showed two different times. Next, I cancelled my membership but they still gave me 6 months to use my credit. However, since my account status changed, the varsity platform cancelled all of my scheduled tutoring sessions. This really wasted valuable time since I am close to my testing date. Also, when you are on hold while calling them, there is a phrase where the automated guy says, "Our expert tutors have a personalized success plan just for you". This is totally bogus, most of the time when I showed up to my session my tutor would just ask me what questions I had, with no further direction. The only mildly good thing was the class I was able to enroll in. I really wish I kept my $800

Won’t be back!

My tutor was great! It’s the fact you can’t get anyone on the phone and when you do they can’t transfer you to a manager. I called Monday 12/2/24 about a billing issues was told to wait for a manager to call back. I called back two days later and yet the ONLY resolution was to cancel the service no refund due to they don’t provide refunds for non used hours they will just expire. NOT HAPPY!!!!

Memberships/cancelling memberships

I have to call in to cancel my membership but can upgrade it on the website… If I can upgrade my membership I should be able to cancel it as well.

Tutoring beyond course material. Tutoring the entire individual.

Varsity Tutors has been working with our son for 2 years now. They have done an excellent job of tutoring him in the actual course material as well as organizational skills. They have treated him with care and kindness and professionalism. He has made great improvements and looks forward to his meeting because the tutors explain concepts well and are invested in his learning. We have finally found tutors that care beyond teaching the subject material and actually tutor the entire individual. They also communicate openly and often with our parents, which have been key in our son's progress.
