Cancelled membership refund problem

My bank paid my N.T. membership fee in error. With 3 weeks to go until membership expires the N.T are refusing the re-fund. I am now taking legal advice. Beware this is a hard-sell, hide behind the charity badge organisation. No it has not been resolved so BBC Rip Off Britain are investigating and Legal Action through the small claims court has begun. Using the name Trust in your title is misleading. Just look at the volume of other complaints.

We got there... eventually.

OK, so we had a problem in that EVERY year we have had to chase up the National Trust for new membership cards - which, of course, are essential if you want to be able to park in many of the National Trust car parks as a member, for free! This year was no different. However, we have now received cards and a generous gesture... So, lets cross fingers that all will be well next year.

Love the National Trust

We love going to National Trust properties. Everyone working or volunteering there is very pleasant and although we have visited the local properties several times we always notice something new. Great to see they encourage young families with games and competitions. The only negative is that the food is a bit pricey and possibly not best suited for children.

Utter dross

Signed up in March 2022, no membership pack sent until June. Complained. My wife was asked for ID at a site, despite having her National Trust Card - and didn't have any so we had to pay entry. I now find out that my membership was automatically renewed without my knowledge for another year. 'Although the payments for your membership are made monthly, the membership you signed up for is a one year contract, and we must ask that full payment for the year of membership is made.' I have canceled the direct debit and will never go to another National Trust site. The worst customer approach and service out there at all levels. Appalling.

Waddesdon Manor. A must see

Recently visited Waddesdon Manor in Bucks. It is the most beautiful house visited so far in our lengthy NT membership. Being as my husband was taken poorly and we for separated the staff did all they could to assist me. We eventually managed to ‘find’ each other, were given drinks by the staff and are now looking forward to a return visit to see all we missed

National Trust unhelpful, inflexible and bureaucratic

Traveling from Australia and wishing to see some of the properties that the National Trust manage in the UK during our two months driving tour we contacted them to inquire about membership. Found them to be hopelessly inefficient with email responses - which took over a week and multiple staff to answer who do not bother to read the thread to understand the whole story - which we initiated one month before we arrived in the UK. They were also overly bureaucratic and inflexible with rules. Insisted that the membership card had to be sent to Australia even though we had already left! When we went to Stonehenge (28th July 2023) we found English Heritage to be far more accommodating giving us a Seniors membership for only GBP 76 and even refunding the booking fees we had already paid for entrance tickets to Stonehenge. When we went to the Giants Causeway (11th August 2023) we again inquired about membership with National Trust. They were not only much more expensive GBP 104 but they also refused to refund the entrance fees already paid to enter Giants Causeway before we used it!

Thank you

We had a lovely day at Chartwell, came back to the car to find my battery was flat. Unfortunately l didn’t get the name of the kind gentleman who works for the cleaning contract company, who without asking came to our rescue with his jump leads and got us on our way. We had at this time been waiting for the RAC for three hours. Thank you, you were brilliant

Senior Membership & the on-hold blues...

I've been trying to sort out senior membership for my elderly Mum who has been a member for several years. Tried 3 times and spent a total of 25mins on hold before I got through. |All the while being told that I should go onto the website - the very website that says that this needs to be done in person on their phone line. Irritating in the extreme!! My Mum is 90 and has been paying the full amount as far as I can see for the duration of her membership. It's only now that I've taken over her affairs due to failing eyesight that I've stumbled upon this. When I got through they put me on hold for another 15mins waiting for a manager! Come on NT, we appreciate what you do or we wouldn't be members. But having obtained our subscriptions it would be nice, honest and fair for you to invest a reasonable amount of your funds into looking after your customers as well as you look after your properties. Please also bear in mind that many of your members are extremely vulnerable and not able to sort this sort of thing out for themselves. Review just gone up by one star as I've been writing it whilst on hold, and have just achieved a refund! PS: why are you even asking for 'reviews' and 'stars' if no improvement has been taking place? Just a thought...

The National Trust is unique in that a membership provides access to carparks, houses, cultural sites, and sites of natural beauty. It's worth the membership just to park in Cornwall really. The equivalent in the USA would be a membership to US National Parks or State Parks. I enjoy going to Tyntesfield and Stourhead as they are most local to me in Somerset, I recently went to Longshaw near Sheffield and it was a lovely day out walking on the Peaks.

NT don’t respond to e mail complaints

I sent an e mail complaint to the National Trust on the 26 July 2023 following a visit to Wimpole Hall , Cambridgeshire. We were charged full price but upon going to view the house , was told the entire downstairs was shut . We should have been informed of that before our money was taken , not afterwards. Certainly misrepresentation and feeling somewhat ‘ripped off ‘ . Parts of the gardens were also shabby . I received an automated response to my complaint saying my number is CASE-00313154 and I will receive a response shortly . After waiting 6 weeks nothing . Tried calling , can’t get through just hanging on and on . No wonder there are so many negative reviews about NT on this site ( nearly 80% ) ; has anyone at NT actually noticed this ? I would like a proper response to my complaint but don’t hold out much hope . How the NT expect loyal and regular visitors to their properties when they don’t treat patrons with any degree of respect , is beyond me . After this experience we will visit private homes , not NT , they don’t deserve our time and money.
