Scandalous & no integrity

The laziest most incompetent organisation out there, who are just after your money, and not for the greater good of maintenance, upkeep and integrity of these public spaces either. Do have a read of the latest fiasco that the Lib Dems has documented (attached). It was in the community newsletter posted to all of our homes in Ham and Petersham - scandalous. This is not the first time the NT have behaved badly regarding money. I work in TV and they wanted to charge me a feature film (big movie) rate for a small BBC documentary insert with an emotional/sad narrative, which of course we could not afford on our small budgets. This has happened many times, and they are notorious in the television industry for being unhelpful and money grabbing. On top of this, a lot of (not all) staff at NT venues are incredibly rude - God knows why. I cancelled my membership years ago as a result of this poor behaviour - the best thing I could have done! Very sad for these beautiful spaces.

Arrived at the park and ride for the…

Arrived at the park and ride for the fair at Buckland Abbey however, the queues for the bus is horrendous. Not enough buses have been organised for this event. Everyone in the queue is complaining about the severe lack of buses. Not a great start to the day!

National Treasure

I absolutely love the National Trust, it is one of the few remaining jewels of this country. I always find the staff so helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. A while back I visited The Vyne and my blood sugar crashed, I went to the shop and bought some chocolate to aid my recovery, the lady behind the till could see I was not well, she offered me a seat in the shop, but I wanted fresh air, so I sat outside and she came to check on me after five minutes. I thought that was so incredibly kind. On visit to Kingston Lacy when one of the three godchildren I had brought with me, dropped his beloved Teddy, a gardener marshalled all the other gardeners to search for the bear and we were reunited in under 30 minutes. I will never forget this, I had not asked for her to do this and was about to brave telling a six year old that there was a strong chance he’d never see it again. I’m always excited for my next visit.

I love visiting National Trust sites on days off

I love visiting National Trust sites on my days off. Me and my partner recently visited Nostel in Yorkshire. The grounds and building were lovely to walk around and the cafe and shop were lovely too. The items in the shop were very nice and I bought some gifts for family for Christmas whilst there. The couples membership is very good value at only £5 each per month including free parking. Well worth it.

Don't treat people with respect

Why does this charity ignore members concerns? Why impose something and not enforce it? When questioned do they ignore the serious questions and concerns raised with a copy and paste response. Why should any person treated this way support this charity. Follow the trusts requirements to the letter, all evidence provided yet absolutely nothing done about it resulting in those guilty of breaking the rules constantly re offending because they know they can. Illegal activities knowingly taking place on trust land with a risk to the public reported to the trust and police ignored. Why? No accountability, answerable to no one and disrespect members wishes.UPDATE. I wait the bog standard "Copy and Paste response" the "excuses which aren't excuses but more evidence of how disrespectful this Charity treats it's members and concerned members of the public. The concerns are over your persistent refusal to hold rule breakers to account, namely Local hunts on your land which causes regular members / people using such land distress. Out of control hounds and thugs on quad bikes and horseback rampaging with any care across your land, all "reported to the Trust and Police" as required. All ignored as no action taken. Imagine rampaging through one of your properties?FURTHER UPDATE. In response to my update and the Trusts response, as expected "Copy and paste" standard yawn yawn response and excuses. Actions speak louder than hollow empty words and as a Charity you take no actions against Hunts trespassing. This has happened since your ban and even early reports of Trespass and public concerns haven't progressed into "Actions" into "prosecutions" which is why my question and concerns will always be asked for years to come. You have the finances to prosecute and stop such blatant Trespass and dis respect towards you as a charity, your members and the paying public and the wildlife you as a Charity are supposed to protect. Sadly supporting the Trust these days is supporting those against wildlife,, with foxes and deer being the main targets of hunting still going on, on Trust land. An empty meaningless ban and a total, arrogant, disrespect towards every member who voted to ban hunting on trust land. One prosecution is all it will take to send a message out to hunts but you fail to do this despite all evidence being available. Why? As a Trust user I no longer feel safe on Trust land be it myself, my family and my dogs. Dogs who I comply with the rules of the Trust when on your land. This isn't going away.

Lousy Customer Service… I have been…

Lousy Customer Service… I have been trying to notify you about a bereavement and asked you to cancel all mailings to the deceased’s address. It takes ages to get any response and when that doesn’t address all the issues I have raised and I request further clarification I do not get any further response. I have contacted your social media team who assured me that someone would be in touch, but no-one has contacted me a week later.

Check NT cafes take Biscuit

If you use the Biscuit app in NT cafes, may I recommend you check they accept it first. Had we known they did not take it in their Boscastle cafe today, I would have preferred to spend my cash in a private cafe. The staff first of all failed to believe the scheme, then when I provided evidence they looked at it as if it was a piece of rock from the moon. Not sure if that was the NT staff factor or the Cornish factor - perhaps a bit if both! If you do use Biscuit here’s a tip. Given most NT cafes have no internet connection, screen shot the vouchers and just delete them once they have been used.

I am gobsmacked how expensive it was

I am gobsmacked how expensive it was, no complaints about Attingham Park but my gosh the prices were on the steep side. Took some friends who were over from Canada. I thought maybe membership would be an option but who on earth in your marketing team decided that you would NOT OFFER ANY DISCOUNT FOR PENSIONERS (unless they’ve been paying full membership for the previous three years? How bleep bleep stupid. It gets worse you offer 50% discount for 18 - 25 year old’s …. Utterly crazy pricing structure, maybe employ some people who understand how to make a business thrive and you’d be doing a better job, you’d certainly generate more income which I’m sure is needed. Having said the above I looked at the salaries you pay and my gosh you’re certainly conservative, maybe increase membership and pay a better salary to attract fresh thinking staff, at all levels but especially the team that dreamt up the membership costs.

Paid for 12 months only got 9

Pay for 12 months - only get 9. We joined in July on a trip to Fountain Abbey, thinking the membership would be good value considering we travel a lot and can visit a lot of properties. We were told we’d get an email which we could use to confirm membership until our cards came through. Unfortunately, we received nothing until October (not even an email confirmation), at which point we were sent membership cards but no members handbook, parking permits or any other details. We are STILL waiting for a full membership pack which will allow us to access the benefits of our membership. If you are considering membership, I’d only recommend it if you are happy with the price for 9 months (as you’ll have to wait until the trust sends you your card or an email to be able to actually use and it seems to take them a quarter of a year on average to do this) and if you don’t mind not having access to any other benefits (eg handbook and parking) until the trust decides to share those benefits with you.

We are regular visitors to the national…

We are regular visitors to the national trust properties and our local property to visit is attingham park. We try to visit every week to take the dogs for a walk and many years ago it was mine and my wifes 1st date location. We always have a coffee at each visit especially on the colder drys to warm us up ready for the big walk. Not so long back we often commented to each other how reasonably priced the coffees were compared to other places and how ingenious the disposable cups were which helps the environment. In fact we were so impressed that the NT were one of 1st companies in the uk to introduce the said cups way ahead of the large coffee companies...brilliant! As stated the drinks WERE reasonably priced and had been for a while but in the last year or so each drink has gradually gone up by 65p, this includes a 15p charge for the cup. I do appreciate the NT are trying to encourage the purchase of a reusable cup to do away with disposable type but can I point out the disposable ones are compostable. We never dispose of the cups anywhere but the relevant bin upon exit and it is a little frustrating carrying the empty cup around for hours and miles whilst walking 2 dogs as there are no rubbish bins and minimal dog waste, it would be worse carrying the reuasble cups around for a long time! Back to the price increases, I am aware of increasing costs everywhere but NT seem to have taken in to to a higher level which discourages sales, many a time I have been in the queue and looked at the cakes etc but been put off by the price. I was behind a young couple last visit and they were having to tell the kiddie "no its too expensive" look at the soft drinks being sold between 50-80p higher than most shops. Its the age old mistake of sell higher and think you are getting more profit but in reality you are selling less. Sell slightly cheaper without being greedy and sell more...its common sense! I appreciate the NT is a charity but seeing the greed IS putting us off going as much. They do get so much of us in membership but for the 1st time in many years we have spoken about cancelling our membership!.....such a pity.
