I never thought I'd say this...
Usually, insurance companies, like banks, are one of those types of businesses that you need but wish you didn't and surely you don't look forward to dealing with. The concept of liking or recommending one might sound weird, sort of like recommending a proctologist for a prostate exam. Surely enough, if I would have been asked to review an insurance company a few years ago, before I decided to leave everything behind and travel the world full time, and really get to appreciate their service, my answer would have been very different, R-rated and full of angry exclamation marks... However, here I am, voluntarily and without coercion, to say TrueTraveller has changed all that for me. I honestly think they are the best travel insurance I've seen (and I've tried many) and couldn't be happier with them from the beginning. It feels like it has been designed by real travellers, focusing on offering the options we'd really want or need, and giving us full freedom to pick and choose, to make a policy adapted to our specific needs. From the excess waiver option, to optional coverage of all adventure activities imaginable, or baggage insurance, or specific items coverage... it's all there so you can choose only what you want. All that, plus its pretty reasonable pricing, extensive health coverage, and the option to sign in for a new policy while you are already travelling make TrueTraveller, in my opinion, the best travel insurance you can find out there.

Brit living in NZ
I used True Traveller as I have been travelling for 5 years and have found it hard to find an insurer that would insure someone from the UK when my journey did not start there (as I currently live in NZ). Quote was a fair price and was easy to understand. Would recommend.

Did the job on a 3 month trip
I had to claim for the costs of a visit to the doctor and a course of antibiotics in Colombia. All sorted out very quickly over the phone, no quibbles. Later in the trip we contacted them about an issue we had getting home due to travel disruption caused by COVID-19. We weren't covered for our specific issue (which is fair enough), but they did give us some helpful advice for dealing with our airline.

Partial refund after early return
I bought insurance for a long travel in early 2020 but I returned home early because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Following this unfortunate event, True Traveller gave me a partial refund, which was highly appreciated.

True Traveller to the rescue
True Traveller is the best travel insurance I’ve ever used! I injured my knee after a skiing accident back in January 2018 while I was living abroad in Canada. My phone wasn’t working at the time so I had to get my dad to call the Emergency hotline from home. They were super helpful and quick and got in contact with me via email. I was able to make the claim and got reimbursed within a couple of days, they even covered most of the physiotherapy I did to recover from my injury. All in all just a great and stress free experience and I just took another policy out for my next adventure!

Offer very clear
Offer very clear, I really liked the fact I could start the insurance even if I already left my country and had to prolong my stay abroad due to known restrictions.

Not a friendly or helpful insurer
My experience of reaching out to True Traveller when I needed them during this Coronavirus crisis is that they don't want to help in any kind of way. I enquired about what I would be covered for with regards to repatriation if necessary, they informed that because the country I was in had a travel warning against it, put in to place due to coronavirus fears, I would not be covered for anything to do with coronavirus, even though I entered the country long before the warning was put in place, and commenced my insurance policy long before I entered the country. So that was incredibly worrying and disappointing. I then did manage to get myself back to the UK, with no help from True Traveller, but during the several transfers I had to make my checked luggage got delayed along the way, due to no fault of my own. I paid an extra premium for baggage cover, so thought that at least I would be able to receive some help from True Traveller to get my bags back to me if needed. When I reached out to them to enquire about this I was told that even though I had paid the premium for baggage cover I was probably not covered, and that they would not cover any costs of getting them returned if they did not like the amount it would cost. They gave me absolutely no assurance that they would assist me with this matter, once again showing themselves to be incredibly unhelpful and ungenerous. Also, during my correspondance I received curt and unfriendly communications from them. I have tried to cancel my insurance policy as I have had to come home early and no longer need travel insurance, so far they are refusing to do this. I will never be using them as my insurer again, and I will be recommending all to avoid them too. Edit: You guys could choose a less defensive response technique and try some decent customer service

Great choice if already abroad
Easy to purchase online when already abroad. Covers COVID-19 as long as the virus isn't present at time of taking out policy (fair enough). My other policy was due for renewal with too many caveats so this policy was a great choice. It's expensive (twice as much for 3 months as an annual multi trip policy) but worth it for peace of mind given the extraordinary circumstances. Hopefully I won't need it.

Haven't had to use it
Haven't had to use it, but the website was clean and simple to use. And my policy seemed clearly laid out to me.

It was so easy to use
It was so easy to use, in a stressful time where am stuck abroad due to flights being cancelled or borders closing and my previous travel insurance expiring because I went over 45 days.... Such a brilliant easy service. Thank you so much Antonia
