after Sales support non existent
The after sales/ support after numerous emails was non existent. The reason for not giving 1 star was that the item purchased was received when promised. I am a novice with NAS drives however chose SPAN.COM as their videos perceived the company as being helpful and having their clients at the heart of their business. I can confirm once they have their money any support is non existent.I sent emails re the NAS is faulty as 10gb ethernet transfer speeds were not working. They initially had not sent the power brick but this was rectified however as they have just a 7 day return policy I guess their non existent replies to my need for help were due to my questions being within this time period. Very disappointed as I’m now left with a £1500 NAS that does not perform how it was promised.

I was grateful for the hand-holding
It took me a very long time and several attempts - just to make up my own mind! - about buying a Synology NAS to replace my working but old and idiosyncratic backup arrangements. I was pretty sure that it would be difficult to get it right and I was grateful for the hand-holding from SPAN.com. The videos explaining the different options/models were excellent and honest. The recommendation was less expensive than I chose (!) I'm a pessimist as I have twice previously lost data (once to a burglar, another time to a hard disk failure). I chose the pre-installed disks and RAID options to minimise what I could get wrong. Even so, there is still a gap between any previous Windows experience you may have and making a NAS talk to your PC and it was fortunate that I had plenty of time to spare. As is common in the IT world, the nice people you are dealing with tend to think something is obvious when it ain't. Synology has lots of its own software which looks pretty good but thinks differently to Windows and uses different terminology. I bet lots of customers in search of a NAS just run away when the depth of difference become apparent. As it happens, I seem to have bodged a way to connect. Why there is no really simple beginners guide to using a NAS to a) backup all your files and b) play music I don't know. It's probably there somewhere in Synology's plethora of options and apps. What I am glad of is that I didn't just choose an Amazon box-shifter. I was confident that SPAN.com wouldn't just take my money and leave me to it and I found their prices very competitive with their "no service" rivals, anyway. There's room for a good video entitled "so you think you want a NAS?" to explain the (really) basic ideas and terminology. No doubt someone has made an awful YouTube offering that doesn't do the job...

Easy to order and efficient
Easy to order and efficient in pre-delivery set-up,and delivery. It was only after I had purchased the product that I was given a screen to select what kind of installation I wanted for my NAS drive but unfortunately I am not tech savvy enough to understand the options I was provided with so I probably did not get as much help as I needed (QNAP offer numerous apps but their explanations are also a bit technical so I have no idea if my set up is the best that I could have).
