We will not be renewing our membership…
We will not be renewing our membership after 20 years of being members. We do feel that NT is too political in its approach. I was a volunteer for quite a while then several years ago woak type policies emerged. Mixed toilets, wearing badges supporting LGBT etc. NT attempt to try to defend high prices, however unlike the commercial Market NT does not pay the majority who provide the services. It is no good NT just passing the buck with complaints, it needs to say what it is doing to respond. It has lost its way and should take more notice of volunteers and visitors.
Absolutely appalling treatment…
Absolutely appalling treatment regarding our refund for a cancelled trip to Dunham Massey because of adverse weather! We were supposed to go on the 5th December and still not had our money refunded!
Belton house Christmas light show avoid !
Well what can I say we were expecting a wonderful experience for out family at £160 it’s a lot of hard earned cash but what the hell it’s Christmas we thought . Our first bad experience was on entry we thought like other light shows at different locations we’ve been to over the years they would take out a q r codes and that was in your in ! No such think you have to queue again and not only that an irate make shouts continuously you won’t get in unless you’ve downloaded it you won’t get no internet out here go to that building ! You then download your code after trasping your family through the crowds wondering are we going to be late! You rejoin the queue and he bellows again in your ear the same instructions barked out ! Finally we are in . Like other light shows we expected a relaxed walk through the lit up trees forget that folks your just getting in the Christmas mood the carols are playing your entering some wonderful tunnel of swinging lights and you hear a bellow go through please ! Keep on moving ! Looking behind to see if a bus load were following us I was shocked to see no one around so what on earth the guy needed to bellow a second time for us beyond me my little one gazing at the decorations got “ MOVE ALONG PLEASE !!” Gee if I’d know it was an army assault course we’d have come prepared . Having said that we didn’t let it spoil our fun and sat down at the square where there were various food displays . I heard a family next to us say “ at £8 for a little sandwich you will have to have half each sorry !” I guess that must have been bread and cheese as we went to purchase a German sausage oh we thought it’s Christmas treat ourselves they were £16 each could have done my weeks shopping with the total we spent but hey it’s Christmas! Well the sausage was delicious but it was wrapped in what can only be described as a soggy stale cheap budget bread you know the kind the sort you throw out to the birds it lasts 6 weeks and doesn’t even mould . Well conclusion total rip off unpleasant experience with bossy staff tip folks go to Blenheim palace or and see how it’s done I’ve seen the replies here they say you are helping with the n trust funds that’s fine but at least give good value for money and treat your customers with respect !
Biddulph Grange Santa, outstanding!
Everything was abysmal except for Father Christmas who was an utter delight. 5 stars for Santa at Biddulph Grange, top fellow and a thoroughly wonderful experience for children and grown-ups alike entirely down to him. He had a pleasant London twinge to his accent, an impeccable manner with children and lived up to all expectations. Please do pass on most hearty praise to the great man. Zero stars for the unpleasant female working at the entrance (trying to charge £3 extra for a leaflet for a reindeer hunt in the grounds which came at no extra cost last year and which was very easy to do without any stinking leaflet, no thanks to the employee), zero stars for the elf lady who was going up to people in Santa's waiting room and spoiling the fun for the children by indirectly broadcasting that visits to Santa were all paid for (after we had of course paid in full for our slot in advance and so was therefore a moot point)- really vile capitalistic mind-games nonsense and we felt sorry for Santa to be burdened by such an elf. It wasn't so long ago that it was unheard of in the UK for shops/establishments to charge for children to visit Father Christmas, even throughout the 1980s-1990s where his grottos were utterly elaborate and yes, they gave away toys for free back then, something to do with the Christmas spirit and goodwill. Your establishment has very little of this and has really lost its way in embracing a hyper-capitalistic approach to almost everything. Camels and eyes of needles spring to mind! Father Christmas, thankfully has not lost his way and he is entirely exempt from my negative comments on the other elements of the visit and your disturbing modus operandi. Thanks Santa for making it a memorable Christmas! Whatever you do, please don't go trying to replace Santa in the future with some sort of sinister and vile freak-show as I know the current NT management are very much capable of doing!
Not holiday
Sadly, I have to strongly advise against staying in the West Wing, Trerice, Kestle Mill. My partner and I took what we hoped would be a relaxing short break there but soon afterwards, after booking two further stays there, were sent two demands for an extra payment of £100. This is what will happen if you dare to use the facilities and equipment provided as you are expected to leave the property as you found it with no work at all for the 'cleaner' to do. We are both very experienced within the cleaning sector and the condition we left the accommodation in would be accepted as part of a typical shift for us. We left no damage and did not remove anything. No silver foil is provided for the oven but there is a cook book to entrap you into using the kitchen equipment. The dictionary definition of a holiday is a break from work. Having to do what the cleaner is supposed to (Presumably part of the cost of the stay is supposed to cover this) is not. Because this cannot be described as a holiday we decided to cancel the two further breaks we had planned for a full refund. I do not call being given a full refund compensation for the stress of being sent two demands for £100 one on a Sunday the second 8am on Monday morning, along with a letter demanding our assurance that we would not leave anything for the cleaner to do on our next two visits. Which only stopped because it was pointed out to the NT as I have put before they were contravening the trades descriptions act by calling their accommodation a 'holiday'. Foot note: If you expect the 'holiday' accommodation to be left in the condition it is found in you are breaking the law regarding The Trades Description Act by calling your accommodation 'holidays'. By the dictionary the definition of the word holiday is a break from work that includes not having to do the cleaners work. Going for a holiday with the NT is like going out for an expensive meal and expecting to have to do the washing up.
National Trust on Drones...
National Trust are providing erroneous information on Drone Usage, and are in clear conflict of their own terms. In response to a FOI request, NT admitted it cannot ban drones flying over it's land. So why are they responding to these reviews stating that it is not allowed? Additionally, the Byelaws that they repeatedly cite only concern commercial photography, being sold or used for commercial or financial gain. They may continue to defend their stance, but in reality, there is nothing they can do.
Time for a change of the Board.
Visited Glow Wild at Wakehurst. Great display but astonishing refreshment prices. So many people taking their own food and drink. Like many aspects the NT Board seems oblivious to how they alienate the public. No wonder they are haemorrhaging members. Time for a change at the top.
INFLEXIBLE NT
Unfortunately I can not leave a review for our holiday in Fishguard last weekend because we did not get to stay there. After spending several thousand pounds over the past year or so booking NT accommodation I am extremely disappointed with your lack of consideration and flexibility under the circumstances. Whilst I understand your 30 day cancellation policy is clear, unexpected circumstances happen as do extreme weather conditions prompting a government "danger to life" alert in the location of our holiday cottage on the same day we were due to travel! My request several days prior to our stay was to RESCHEDULE our stay (not refund!) due to an unexpected emergency at home however you were not prepared to offer this option but only to try and "resell" our booking. In light of the subsequent impending Storm Darragh this would of been an irresponsible action as a holiday company towards your customers safety particularly when the government advice was not to travel and to stay at home....
At least D!ck Turpin wore as mask!
At least D!ck Turpin wore as mask! How much are you charging to see a few lights?? Whoever runs said trust has ruined a once great national treasure that was free or at least cheap to visit, now another multi national rip off!!
A national rip-off.
National Trust say they aim to be inclusive and welcoming to all. However when they charge £5.20 for a single sausage roll how can a normal working family take a break in their ultra expensive cafes? It caters for wealthy pensioners and middle class families, they exclude the rest of us by exorbitant prices.
