Mr Maurino has transformed my life. I was very short sighted with astigmatisms and wore glasses from the age of 5. When I was 22 I had a serious detached retina and 50 years ago eye surgery was not as it is now. Although I was lucky and retained most of my vision, the experience left me with a huge fear about eyes and blindness. This resulting in me delaying cataract surgery to the point where I couldn’t use my left eye at all. Everything you read in these reviews about Mr Maurino is fact.. As soon as I met him I felt reassured and was able to put my trust in him. He oozes calm professionalism and is supported by an incredible team - many thanks to Ana and Sue who were so supportive when I had to cancel surgery twice for other ongoing medical issues. Mr Maurino’s skill has given me a new lease of life. My vision is amazing. Gone are the glasses and contact lenses. I didn’t ever expect to know what it’s like to open eyes in the morning and actually SEE. Although I don’t imagine having cataract surgery makes it to anyone’s ‘bucket list’ - if there is anyone out there who has a fear that dominates their life like I did - just pick up that phone NOW ... just saying!

Surgeon top notch in all aspects. My only wish for improvement would be in his secretaries who didn't always give information that tallied with actual procedures. This was most apparent with arrangements for leaving the hospital after surgery.

Dr Maurino is an outstanding surgeon. I have suffered from being extremely short sighted and having astigmatism since I was 10 and, over the last couple of years, my eyesight deteriorated and I developed cataracts. Since the operation: * Short sighted - I now have 20/20 vision. * Astigmatism - I now have no astigmatism. * Night blindness - Before the operation I could not see at all in the dark. My first impression after the first operation was that materially more light was entering my eye. I now have excellent night vision for the first time in my life. * 3D - Before the operation, things looked flatter. I could not see steps and fell down steps on numerous occasions. Now I can see the distance between objects I am looking at. * White balance - Before the operation, white colours looked yellow. Now they look white. * Colour saturation - Before the operation, a field of grass looked like a large bright green blob. Now I can see three different shades of grass and I can see that some grass is nearer to me and some further away. * Contrast - Since the operation, my eyesight is clearer, in that the contrast between different colours and objects is stronger. The operation has exceeded all expectations. I was quite worried about having the operation. However, I stopped worrying when I met Dr Maurino, because he is so obviously expert at what he does. He listens carefully to any concerns and explains everything patiently and with empathy for the patient. He analyses the situation thoroughly and thinks extremely quickly, so I knew that, if there were to be a problem, I would be in good hands.

For many years I had been too scared to consider having eye surgery to correct my short sightedness and because of my age was not looking forward to getting reading glasses either. LASIK surgery with Mr Maurino I had been very nervous about having elective eye surgery, and had delayed for a number of years. In the end I chose highest possible quality practitioner in Mr Maurino, who had been recommended by a friend. I can't recommend him (and Moorfields) highly enough - he's a leading authority, is uber-professional and courteous and I felt in extremely safe hands throughout. I came from a correction of -7, so it has been a bit of a life-changing experience.The result has been exactly as I expected - I have had no problems and am very happy, including the post-operative care.
