Great LASEK treatment and results, wish I had done it earlier

I've worn glasses for the majority of my life (20+ years) and have been moderately short sighted for most of that time (-5.75). After researching different clinics and surgeons, I decided to go with Dr Maurino and his team and I'm so glad I had the surgery. Moorfields has a fantastic reputation and when I met Dr Maurino and his team they were all very professional, warm and conveyed a deep knowledge of the procedure. I also appreciated the honesty of Dr Maurino, in managing expectations of the risk/results that I could expect from the surgery. I was advised that Lasek was the best procedure for me, the operation itself was so quick!. Each eye took about 30 seconds under the laser and the team make you feel really comfortable and relaxed throughout. They also provided plenty of information around the aftercare process. With Lasek the recovery time is longer and I took a little time off work. However I could see well enough to look after myself within a few days and was back to work after about a week. 4 months later I'm really pleased with the results, I have at least 20/20 vision in both eyes and no dry eyes etc which you sometimes hear about. Having the surgery was a complete lifestyle choice, I would of been happy to wear glasses/contacts for the rest of my life. The novelty of being able to see perfectly as soon as I wake up, going swimming etc still hasn't worn off even after 4 months. I would definitely recommend Dr Maurino and the team to any friends, colleagues etc who are thinking of having surgery.

Truly excellent!

The results of the lasik surgery have surpased my expectations. Four months on from the surgery I still wake and marvel at my excellent unaided vision!!! For those of you considering this procedure, I can only encourage you to go for it. All the staff under Mr Maurino direction are excellent and go to great lengths to put you at ease - whether it be your pre or post operative examinations or the operation day itself. The procedure itself, which I admit I was very nervous about, can be described as a little weird, but absolutely pain free and all over in 10'to 15 minutes. Thank you to Mr Maurino and all your staff

Amazing!

I finally had lasek for my short sighted! The whole experience from the initial consultation to the post operative follow up was a well oiled machine. I must admit I did want to run away when I got into theatre but as soon as Mr. Maurino started speaking to me I immediately calmed down and felt at ease. His confident aura and surgical skills along with complete control in theatre is something to be in awe of. As a eye care practitioner and fellow colleague he never made me feel like I couldn't ask him any questions I wanted to and always answered them completely and fully. Mr. Maurino gave me my options and the rest was up to me. I did not feel pressured into going ahead with the surgery and the immense support pre-operatively and post-operatively from all of his team, from his practice managers to his theatre nursing staff was impeccable. In addition to the above my visual outcome is absolutely fantastic; my night vision is better now than it ever was with glasses or contact lenses. I feel very lucky to have had Mr. Maurino perform my surgery and both he and his team have shown me genuine care and made me feel like a person rather than a pair of eyes!

CATARACT SURGERY IN EYES WITH PSEUDO-EXFOLIATION

I am a retired surgeon of another specialty. As my cataracts evolved and surgery became necessary, I researched and found out that with pseudo-exfoliation, the surgery needed to be carried out skilfully to minimise the complication of dislocation of the replaced lens(es). I therefore consulted with Mr Maurino to find out whether laser surgery was better than using the knife. Mr Maurino discussed at length and concluded that in addition to skill, experience mattered. He did not say that he had the experience or skill, but my research showed that he was very experienced. I therefore had my eyes operated by Mr Maurino one at a time within 6 weeks of each other. I requested the use of lenses that would enable me to drive without use of glasses He used the knife (not laser) I went through surgery without any anxiety . I recovered well without any complications. I drive and watch television without the use of glasses and use glasses for reading and computer work only (as I requested before surgery).

Excellent outcome

Mr. Maurino and the team were thoroughly professional with evaluating several options for my procedure, at times painstakingly and patiently repeating measurements to ensure accuracy which paid off in the end. I was very short sighted and had some irregularities so was not expecting miracles, however, the outcome could not have been better at this stage 6 months down the line having been recently measured at almost 20/20. We spent some time carefully considering all the available routes and opted for LASEK. On the whole a very positive experience.

Fantastic Experience

Mr Maurino is an incredibly skilled and knowledgeable surgeon and has a fantastic team supporting him. My experience receiving LASIK vision correction surgery was a pleasure from start to finish (as much as having surgery can be a pleasure). After a thorough initial examination, my options were explained in detail and all my questions were answered. I felt thoroughly prepared going into the surgery itself and, post-surgery, fully supported through the recovery process. The LASIK surgery itself was almost miraculous, having been fairly heavily short sighted since the age of 10 I was able to see, with clarity, immediately. It was a little like looking through a fog but this was gone when I woke the next morning. Mr Maurino and the excellent surgery team at Moorfields had the process down to a fine art, I was in and out in a couple of hours. The actual surgery itself took maybe 25 minutes. I have no hesitation in recommending Mr Maurino for anyone considering laser eye correction.

Followo up visit

I had Lasik 6 years ago and, working so much in front of a screen, hence abusing my eyes quite a lot, I needed reassurance that everything was still in order. Mr Maurino digged up my file promptly and scheduled a visit which was very thorough and detailed. He immediately addressed a blepharitis that was causing me discomfort and reassured me on the state of my eyes that are now feeling fine again. I am very happy to have had the procedure with such a professional and caring surgeon and would recommend it to anybody.
