Progressive cataracts were increasingly impacting on my active outdoor lifestyle and a family member suggested I book a consultation to see Mr Maurino at Moorfields Eye Hospital. The appointment with Mr Maurino involved a comprehensive eye assessment, discussion on lens choice, risks, benefits and likely results of surgery. I felt at ease with his professional approach and the prognosis given was so positive that I decided to go ahead with lens replacement straight away, opting for the Toric trifocal lens. A week apart each operation was relatively brief with little discomfort and Moorfields supporting staff were excellent. After the first procedure, the improvement in clarity and depth of colour was amazing and after 2 days I was able to watch television and read a map without glasses. Now 3 weeks after completing surgery the post op review confirms 20/20 vision. In addition, I no longer need glasses for reading and driving at night is so much easier with little dazzle from oncoming headlights. Orienteering has taken on a new chapter and I look forward to improving scores this year. I have been extremely happy with the whole experience and resulting success of my cataract surgery with Mr Maurino and am pleased to add my endorsement of his skills to anyone considering this procedure.

Vincenzo Maurino put me at ease from the moment we met for my initial consultation. My eyes were examined in great detail over a period of a couple of hours. Mr Maurino discussed the results at length with me, asked what I wished to achieve from Replacement Lens Surgery, and then recommended lenses and the procedure that would suit me. My eyes were operated on separately with one week between procedures. The whole experience of surgery and recovery was completely painless and seemed to me quite straight forward (which I am sure it wasn't). The results I can only describe as spectacular! Thanks to the skill of Mr Maurino my eye sight has been restored to that of a person 30 years younger. I now never need spectacles and can complete intricate close up work and equally have excellent distant vision. Very good choice

I would recommend my Moorfields experience to anyone considering cataract surgery. From the first phone call to the last consultation I was made to feel welcomed by all the staff. There were many people in a similar situation in the clinics but I never felt rushed and Mr Maurino was First Class. I even dithered about deciding which lenses I'd like and he took the trouble to see me again before I left. I was very nervous before the first op but it was so easy and pain free throughout the whole process that the second eye was a much calmer experience. The Day Room in the Hospital enables you to converse with other patients about the experience and I think helps to alleviate their fears. I'm very pleased with my new prescription...-2 from -9 as I chose to have a mono lens. Many thanks to you all.

For a lot of people, including me, any surgery on the eyes is bound to give rise to some angst. Nevertheless, the experience itself of cataract removal and the replacement of lenses by very advanced and sophisticated techniques, was quite magical in dexterity and the speed with which the procedures were carried out. I had absolutely no pain or discomfort whatsoever and the procedure lasted only a few minutes, with no adverse after effects. The explanations of what was involved were excellent and I received first class care before the procedures from the staff at Moorfields, all of whom were highly professional and skilled in this type of operation. Mr Maurino is of course at the top of his profession with a stellar reputation.
